I thank all the imaginary gods for Jihadists.

The moment you wiegh down your pious hopes with criticial thinking, is the moment they stop being hopes.

What use is the no death penalty clause, wheren there are so many alternatives with the same goal available?
You can kill a man's body, or his reputation: the end result is the same.

Life and reputation are hardly synonymous.

They are not the same. Try Webster's dictionary and see for yourself.

Everything leads to death. Poverty is relative, as is happiness. I'm old, poor, sick and happy. So what's your point?

It depends how you got there, especially the part about being poor and sick.

That what look like "humane punishments" eventually have the same consequences as the death penalty; and that as such, the presence of those "humane punishments" is no real indicator that a society is civilized, or more civilized than those that do have the death penalty. The methods may be different, but the end result is the same.

Life in prison is not the same as death, you can read books, learn things, make friends, even get married and have conjugal visits.

Not so.

The country without a death penalty would be seen as venerating life for it's own sake, --- while the one with the death penalty would be seen as hypocritical as it would say it venerates life while taking it.

Curious -what if the country without a death penalty also had life prison sentences?

That has little relevance to what I said about the death penalty but it is certainly better than killing when we say we should not kill and should venerate life.
