I have an idea for a Ghost detection machine

I saw an episode of Ghost adventures recently where a ghost was "apparently" sitting on the end of a bed. They had a thermal capture machine show up blue to show up the coldness. What if you had some sort of machine that could measure the temperature of every molecule of air? This would possibly create a three dimensional image.

I am aware that this sounds very much like Maxwell's Deamon thought experiment.

Alternatively you could get a large sheet of paper, hold it above the ghost, and lower it. Although this would possibly anger the Ghost and make it move.

The ghosts connection with air being cold seems to be consistent among ghost hunters.

Oh no I watched it myself, it's pretty sincere. Like I believe they believe. And some of the things they find seem spooky and unnatural.

You know that's a scripted work of fiction, right?

No it isn't. It was on for ten years with tons of people coming and going from it and never has it come out that it was faked. Claiming TV paranormal shows are fake is just the debunker's excuse not to accept the reality of the phenomenon.

If it was realz you would have real scientists there. It's not real. It's entertainment for the gullible.

No you wouldn't. Scientists are too ball-less to risk their reputations looking into such fields. It would be the death of their career to say they believed in the paranormal because mainstream science ridicules it so much.

Wrong, it would make their career. It would be the biggest thing since relativity.

We'll have to wait for another generation to rise up. It's always the stodgy old ones that keep science in the past. I predict the paranormal will be accepted by science within 30 years. The evidence is simply undeniable.

Obviously your standards of evidence are more suited to reality TV than actual science.

Let's grant for the sake of argument that's there's something to hunt.

The problem with ghost-hunting is that you can't know when or where the phenom might occur. If you could know that, you could bring a whole host of scientific instruments to bear - way more sophisticated and compelling than sheets of paper.

Instruments like:

Mel meters?
Infrared cameras?
Full spectrum cameras?
EMF detectors?
Laser grids?
EVP recorders?
Vibration detectors?
Digital thermometers?
Ovilus?
Microsoft Kinect camera?

All of these are already being used..

The problem of catching a ghost in action is a matter of conducting all night investigations on haunted locations. With luck and enough patience things can and do happen. Not always. But then that's why you keep going to many locations over time.

They occur in the presence of people. That could be a clue that it's a matter of perception, not detection.

genius, everything that is understood by people is detected through and by people's perception. the problem with your logic is you have obnoxiously already made up your mind it's all imagination from your posts and as if it's a fact. what makes you so sure that you know all of reality? that's a rhetorical question because you don't. you are under an assumption that nature is completely logical.

If you put a thermal camera in front of a fire place you can see the fire in colour but if you put in front of a ghost which "presumably happens" it doesn't show the ghostly body so it would suggest they are less physical than fire. People don;t understand that when shows say before they start "this is only for entertainment" that's the program getting around a legal loop whole. TV standards say you're not actually aloud to show ghosts.

No, they say that because it is just silly entertainment. It is not illegal to present their show without that disclaimer. Game of Thrones does not have to say they are entertainment only.

You do realize that making up untrue silly things only hurts your case, don't you?

No paranormal investigator shows on TV start with that disclaimer. The psychic hotline does, but everyone knows that's fake.

TV standards say you're not actually aloud to show ghosts.

Bullshit they do.

Oh maybe they put that disclaimer on shows like that before watershed, but they should all avoid the loop whole. I know some professionals use the wrong logo for Instagram right now... we are getting distracted from making this machine.
