How would you know that a mind has been uploaded to a computer?

it would have to be uploaded as a 3d simulation copying the brain exactly and it's neural network as sarkus mentioned. only if it was a clone, could it be a limited fascimile or representative of a mind with the capacity to continue learning or forming new neural pathways but still limited. memories are also encoded from direct experience which is different than what a computer can do. a computer can't taste, touch, smell, or feel. it's never hugged a tree, for instance or knows the taste of red wine or the scent of a rose etc.

it depends what you want a computer to understand or do (function). a computer brain inside a moving robot can learn from practical sensory input but never exactly in the way totally organic life does because it's a different type of lifeform. but then again, it may not need to in order to function or be useful anyways. a computer based mind would have strengths that we don't possess and weaknesses that are our strengths and vice versa.

"You" and "a mind" -- rather than "your mind" -- suggests simulation of a brain other than mine. As well as implying it is the "resting on the self" type experiencing a generated environment rather than embodied in a robot, ambulating about in our world whereby it could just as much seek answers itself.

Accordingly, if I'm actually residing at the higher level that the technological apparatus maintaining this potential "virtual person" is existing in, as well as where the original individual it might have been modeled on did likewise abide, then it's possible in theory to verify such. Including just the grunt process of tracking down the relatives / friends or records and information about any "real" human that this virtual person claims to be. Or recruiting that original source itself should s/he still be alive. Or hacking into the institution which conducted the project and examining the stored data of its work.

Additionally, if I've got this rapport with the virtual person (i.e., how I'd know about such to begin with or be in a position to be aroused by curiosity), then if my search was successful in the positive sense, the digital representation could also be informed that it did / does have an archetype at my upper level. Comparisons could then be conducted to see how detailed or sloppy a job the simulation was (how accurately the ectype conforms to the archetype).

For a test, if you leave out certain information about the person's life in the upload, but the person still is able to recite that information after the upload, then this is proof that they were uploaded. DE

How could it magically possess the missing information? Because some soul of the archetype person brutely emerged upon the similar operational patterns of the ectype person? If the latter is missing part of its identity structure then its difficult to see how the same "soul" could be conjured, as well as inject these influences upon the "computer program" so that they remained covert (granting such extraordinary things could contradictorily happen in the world of physicalist or naturalist doctrines, which forbid them a priori).

This Thread seems to assume that it is possible to upload a mind to a computer, which is not possible with current computer technology.

No modern computer is properly organized for the task. The human brain is a complex neural network, while a computer is organized using some memory for data & other memory for instructions.

Even an array of linked computers do not have the proper organization.

How would you know that a mind has been uploaded to a computer?
How would you know that there is a mind in the bodies of people around you? You know about your own mind, and that's it.
So, we wouldn't know. Not that it matters. What matters is whether a computer can get to be more intelligent than we are.

???
If uploading your mind somehow destroys the original, then the person won't be able to speak at all, ever.
If it doesn't destroy it, then what the person does after the uploading has no bearing on what the computer contains or does.

When the computer asks you what your motives are for the calculation?

No longer true. NPU's are becoming more and more popular, and are even cellphones are now including NPU's as coprocessors to handle things like natural language processing.
