How to make yourself vomit!

Just curious, earlier today I read a label on something which read 'if swallowed, induce vomiting.'

So how should you make yourself puke if you ingest poison by mistake?

Just look at this picture for a brief time and it will make you vomit!

Stick you fingers into the back of your throat.
Or look at a picture of Bush.. yea, that might work too lol

Er.. wait, that isn't Bush, is it ?

Put two fingers down your throat and hope you have a gag reflex. If not take a lot of salt, add it to warm water and drink it quickly. You should be vomiting like a pro.

There's also syrup of Ipecac which is a good emetic if you have it at hand

Only that much salt is toxic..

nevermind. if you swallow large amounts of liquified poisopn then induction of vomiting may very well be a good cousre of action. However, a small amount i am not so sure. as a matter of fact i recall reading on some labels where it says DO NOT induce vomiting but call the proper authorities.

A 2005 review by an HRSA-funded scientific panel concluded that vomiting alone does not reliably remove poisons from the stomach. The study suggested that indications for use of Ipecac syrup were rare and patients should be treated by more effective and safer means. Additionally, Ipecac’s potential side effects, such as lethargy, can be confused with the poison’s effects, complicating diagnosis. Ipecac may also delay the administration or reduce the effectiveness of other treatments such as activated charcoal, whole bowel irrigation, or oral antidotes.[5]

[edit] Abuse
Ipecac has been used by individuals with bulimia nervosa as a means to achieve weight loss through induced defensive vomiting. Repeated abuse is believed to cause damage to the heart, which can ultimately result in the user's death.[6]

Is salt that toxic? People drink seawater accidentally while swimming, with no ill effects other than temporary nausea and bad taste in mouth.

Two table spoons of salt will kill you.. if you can keep it in of course.

Shit, I did not know that.

I'm sure I eat about 2 tablespoons per day, though...I used to actually put over half a tablespoon into my soup. I'm not dead, and I definitely don't have hypertension...

In one go of course :p
Have you seen that link ?

Precautions
Orally, KCl is toxic in excess; the LD50 is around 2500 mg/kg (meaning that a lethal dose for 50% of people weighing 75 kg (165 lb) is about 190 g (6.7 ounces), or about 38 teaspoons). Table salt is about as toxic. Intravenously this is reduced to just over 100 mg/kg, but of more concern are its severe effects on the cardiac muscles; high doses can cause cardiac arrest and rapid death, ergo its aforementioned use as the third and final drug delivered in the lethal injection process.

Ok, maybe I was a bit off with the 2 tablespoons. How many teaspoons go into a tablespoon ?

No, not one go. :)

Salt is NaCl not KCl though, isn't it?

It depends on how much salt your body is used to handling, the health of your kidneys, your water intake, sodium losses in sweat and urine, heat and exercise, as well your genetic predisposition to hypertension. Intake of other minerals like potassium magnesium and calcium may also modify your sodium balance

When used in lethal injection, bolus potassium injection affects the electrical conduction of heart muscle. Elevated potassium, or hyperkalemia, causes the resting electrical potential of the heart muscle cells to be higher than normal. Without a negative resting potential, cardiac cells cannot generate impulses that lead to contraction.

So anyway, back to vomiting? :D If you were to accidentally swallow something dangerous, what should you do to make yourself puke it up?

Stick your fingers into the back of your throat. I don't know any other good way that works rapidly.
