Hormone reason for American fatness

Hi,
a friend of mine who is learning in the USA made a curious guess on why most Americans are fat.

She says that you put genetically altered growth hormones in most of your meat and corn.
She also observed that most Americans are fat in the midle, but have normalish legs and top.
She also remarked that the farm animal body parts you mostly buy for consumption [I don't eat meat] are exactly those that are observed to be fat in Americans.

So, to put it all together, her guess is that you are getting fat from the growth hormones that your food is full of.

She also thanked the gods almighty that your genetically altered food is forbidden to be imported in to the EU.

What say you, is it biologically possible?

How do you explain ppl that do the Atkins Diet and lose a lot of weight.
They eat mainly meat( bacon, steak, pork, chicken ) and eggs?

I don't know, hadn't heard of this atkins diet. Maybe it fucks up the metabolism in some way. Have no idea. Maybe you're right. Sounds unhealthy thought. Yuk!

Any way my question is if these hormones in food can similary affect people who eat that food.

Atkins....is mainly meat, eggs and cheese....with some vegetables. It limits carbohydrates to 20 g or less a day. You can loose A lot of weight on it, very quickly. It is VERY hard to stay on though!!

People get fat because they eat too much of the wrong things and don't do enough exercise, plain and simple.

What if they made a hormone that made cows really skinny,
then they could eat those cows instead.

It would explain popeye.
That spinach popeye used to eat.
That could have been GM spinach.

For men, the first place fat gets stored is around a belly. For women, I think it is the ass. It's not an American thing. And also, though it may look like some fat people aren't fat in certain areas, they really are, if they also are in the middle.

No way. : o

There is no need to look too far past the essentials for the direct reasons as to why anyone is fat. They intake a caloric surplus.

As I mentioned in another thread though, I think food does play a major role. Just because of the high calorie content and the lack of satiety people find with it in America.

The Atkins diet works by putting your body into a state of ketosis which alters your metabolism. While it has been shown to promote weight loss I'm not aware of any long-term studies that evaluate other health risks from it.

Why are just Americans in the spotlight for being overweight?

Lithe and sophisticated Europeans laughing at American fatties across the Atlantic is becoming a thing of the past, with EU fat rates catching up and in some cases exceeding those of the US.

Between 25 percent and 43 percent of EU citizens are clinically overweight - defined as a BMI ratio of 25 to 30 - with clinical obesity rates reaching 23 percent in some member states. In the US, 28 percent of men and 39 percent of women are overweight while 28 percent of men and 34 percent of women are obese.

In reports by the Associated Press and the BBC, around half of all Europeans are overweight or obese and the EU wants to tackle this issue.

Europeans, take a look in the mirror before you lambast the U.S. for being overweight.

I'll lambast all I like, I'm 45, 73 kg of rippling muscle( despite drinking like a fish).
You're all a bunch of Jelly bellies.
Lambasting? Yeah! Baste the Lamb and serve me a double helping.

I'm 34, 5'11" 170lbs and have 12% body fat. I toke up regularly and eat fast food several times a week. Not all Americans are fat. Far from it.

Why are you all skipping my original question?
Can people get fat because of growth hormones in the food?

Probably hormones do play a part. I believe it is why girls are entering puberty earlier and earlier- and not just the fat ones.
