Teri2 reminds me of collecting. Many years ago when I was but a lad of 9, I started a stamp collection with a huge collection album. I was faithful in collecting and filing those stamps for quite some time. In 1957 there is a note on one of the pages that there were over 20,000 stamps. Then, one day the urge to collect those stamps faded. But I never got rid of the album. I still have it. There is no telling what it is worth today. Honestly, I have no idea. I do know that there are true rarities in it. A misprint, with the corrected issue, and newspaper clipping. A letter mailed through the western days of the pony express, written with a quill pen, wax seal on the back, the style of writing of the time reflected in the script with a double ss, made is if they were f’s. Complete with a hundred year + postmark. When was the last time you bought a 1 ½ ¢ air mail stamp? Or have you ever seen the stamps used when paper shortages were the norm during the world wars? They are made of tissue paper. I have a complete commemorative set of them. I have stamps from countries that no longer exist today. Who would have thought that would be the case then? Even odd ball things like easter seals and boy scout jamborees, cigarette tax stamps that were once part of the package and not part of the wrapper. Furniture tax stamps and first day of issues and on and on. Thank you for reminding me Teri2. One day I shall pull it back out and remember again my childhood.
