BTW, text does not claim lady is a "hopeful monster" the whale just gave birth to. She would be a "monster" to the whale, but quite good looking to me.

If anyone knows how to capture both more permanently stored at Sciforums, please do so and then post both here. The first (this one while still displaying) is the most amazing and beautiful photo I have ever seen.

I say Mr MacGillivray got the best answer, evolution has no direction.

If that was true we'd all be single celled organisms.

Evolution always moves towards organisms that are most likely to reproduce. Whether we define that as good or bad is immaterial.
