But, in reality, they don't and never will.

I meant is it feasible, practical and sustainable for the majority of the world population to learn advanced science. If they dont (however well scientists communicate) they are taking someone else's word for it.

But it can be an informed word. We can be reasonably sure that these theories aren't being confirmed through a dream or vision, that there is actual empirical data. The basic concepts of evolution or global warming can be understood by the average person without getting into statistical analysis or gene sequencing. In other words, it's not the same kind of unquestioning faith demanded of the religious.
