Do you believe in equal equality, SAM?

equality for everyone.

I don't think equality is completely unworkable. As the Romans said: Qui vincit non est victor nisi victus fatetur. Persistance is the most powerful weapon in the world.

legally they should be but they are not. Woman not being allowed to go topless really pisses me off.

This would seem an appropriate moment to stop and contemplate the similarities which make us all so wonderfully similar in this Age of Aquarius.

And to give thanks to the Lord for this blessing.

The alternatives are too horrifying to contemplate.

Interesting view, Luke. And if you really believe that, then why do you have so many disagreements with others on this site? And worse, why are continually telling those others that they're ignorant or stupid, while holding yourself out to be soooooo much smarter?
Who me? You mean disagreements with those who claim that humans are not equal? You act like you've never disagreed with anybody. Just because I disagree with a few things with a few people doesn't mean that humans are not equal, and that elitism is no good.

I voted "yes".

I believe people are entitled to [enc]equal consideration[/enc]. i.e. a priori they are on an equal moral footing.

Work toward it? How? If it's so unworkable, what can one do to "work toward it"?

Baron Max

I think considerable progress has been made "working toward" S.A.M's ideal. If I had been born 150 or even 50 years ago I wouldn't of had the equal opportunity, like that of a white child to go to go to school or pursue a college degree, but now I do. The world will never be a Utopia that's perfect for everyone, but every little bit of movement towards equality counts.

Of course we aren't equal. Anyone with eyes or a brain can see that. Some are taller, smarter, stronger, faster, whatever. But we should be treated as equal before the law because that is the only fair system. Let each rise or fall according to his merit, the government should be neutral. That's what equality before the law is all about.

Isn't it interesting that it takes big government, cops with clubs and guns, lawyers and courts, prisons and fines, ............all to force us all to act like we're all "equal"?

Am I the only one that sees that as forcing people to be and act differently to what they want or believe?

Well, I guess no matter how you slice it, might really does make right, don't it?

“Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”

Alexis de Tocqueville

“All the citizens of a state cannot be equally powerful, but they may be equally free”

Voltaire

“Woman once made equal to man becomes his superior”

Socrates

“All this talk about equality. The only thing people really have in common is that they are all going to die.”

Bob Dylan

“The doctrine of equality! There exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

"The foundation on which all our constitution are built is the natural equality of man”

Thomas Jefferson

“One of the things about equality is not just that you be treated equally to man, but that you treat yourself equally the way you treat a man”

Marlo Thomas quotes

“Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact”

Honore de Balzac

“All the citizens of a state cannot be equally powerful, but they may be equally free” ..Voltaire

He forgot something in that statement .... "...but they may be equally free 'as long as hard, rough men stand ready to enforce that ideal'."

Voltaire was a pussy!

“Woman once made equal to man becomes his superior” ..Socrates

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; The worst mistake in all of human history was to give women those equal rights. It's fucked up the whole world because ever since, the children weren't raised properly.

I vote no because i think it's impossible to achieve. I also vote no because equality among everyone would be boring, and sounds a lot like communism.
