Actually if you care to check history that is exactly what would have happened for those who were slaves, but many of them were free men of color as they would say in the day, and never were slaves or had already received manumission.

The situation in the south was something very similar to the kulack of Russian.

It also reflected Russia, in that the bednyaks, seredniaks, status was that of a slave with no rights and bound to the land, and subject to the will and whim of the Russian Nobility.
