Congratulations America - you got the president you deserve

We survived Dubya, Strump's first term, etc. Checks and balances seem to work in the long run.

Anyway, Trump will be dead in a year or so. With any luck.

Probably less, and luck may not be required. Vance is not an addled narcissist who lurches from one position to another; he has a known agenda. He'll be far more effective than Trump; he'll appoint competent villains instead of crackpots to dismantle the civil service and sell it for scrap. I guess by then Trump will have locked up or shot all his critics. Once the immigrants are in concentration camps and public schools are closed, all those not-rich children can be put to work in lettuce fields and chicken processing plants. The DUSA will limp along from hurricane to oilspill to drought for another two decades, with periodic armed clashes in the streets.
Could be worse....

Unsure where we will be re civil liberties and our Constitution in the coming years, which does give one pause as to how freely to speak on online forums. My hope is that one will still be able to express one's fervent wish that a big clot of cheeseburger lipids finds its path blocked in a president's coronary artery or that a VP is swallowed up by a sofa while pleasuring himself thereon. Should one feel inclined to express such rumbles of discontent. Perhaps our new White Christian Overlords can view this as mere venting, a bit of angry hyperbole not entirely unlike the angry hyperbole that continuously blasts from their figurehead's rectocranial opening.

It's unfortunate that he will have the Senate with him now. The GOP is at least two seats flipped, looks like.

And Clarence Thomas is not many years from retirement now, so he could opt to go early, confident that his replacement will carry his torch of "originalism."

Keep marching.

Trump advocates assassination of his political enemies, so why we should we walk on eggshells?
I sympathize with that view, but want to say we are better than Trump and his band of thugs and brownshirts. And if the slow-grinding wheels of justice ever do find Trump, I would like him alive and conscious when the gavels come down.

But when the fascists control all three branches of government, what's the likelihood of that?

Strategically, it's problematic--to put it mildly--but I have to say that ethically I fully support killing fascists. Nothing to do with vengeance or any of that crap, it simply comes down to this: fascists pose an existential threat and they cannot be reasoned with.

A silver lining..I can't believe we are still fighting for this..

"Ten states considered adding language guaranteeing abortion rights in their state constitutions during this year’s elections.

Voters in seven of the states approved the ballot questions. Three rejected them.

The results mean a dramatic redrawing of the map for abortion access in parts of the country. Half of the measures cement existing abortion protections that were already outlined in state law."

The way he's looked recently, that's a long ... er ... Perhaps he will recover by January, now that he doesn't have to mobilize another insurrection, and perhaps he'll remain vigorous enough to launch his pet pogroms and feed the frenzied sharks, before Vance gets hold of the reins. After, it's duck-step and no more elections.

Unfortunately, Trump has no longer any legal liabilities. SCOTUS has declared that the US President can not be held responsible for any crime, including murder.

If anything can be done, it can only be done before Trump is sworn in as President.

I would in most case agree with your sentiments but this is not just a case of politics I do not like.

If Trump forces a partition of Ukraine and declines to confirm US commitment to Article 5 of NATO, then we in Europe are in serious danger. Putin will have his eyes on Moldova next and will start to work on destabilising the Baltic States. And he may well come back for the rest of Ukraine after a year or two. Further afield, Israel will feel able to complete its ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians in Gaza and take over the territory, displacing or killing 2 million people. Who can stop them?

The selfishness and irresponsibility of Trump will cost countless lives and leave the world in a state in which grabbing territory by force of arms is once again the norm.

That's true. It's the same with "progressives".
