Beautiful people are healthier and live longer

Does this apply in all things? Do people prefer proportionality as a norm?

If you ever wondered about the fairness of life, now you got the answer! :)

Beautiful people are not just prettier but they live longer and helthier than YOU. The article doesn't mention it, but they are also more successfull than you.

Just so you know, life isn't far.

"But why? One idea is that the trait is an advert of genetic quality or fertility.

An alternative view is that preferences for a symmetrical face arose from cultural factors and say nothing about health, fecundity and other biological factors.
Now support for the idea that a symmetrical face is indeed a strong advert of mate ‘quality’ is published today in the journal PLoS One by Dr Anthony Little of the University of Stirling and colleagues."

Shouldn't it be that healthier people look more beautiful and live longer?

When people take care of their health, they will likely have good teeth (and
therefore confidence to smile), healthy skin, healthy hair, etc, and therefore
more beautiful? When they take care of their health (avoiding alcohol, smoke,
junk food, maintaining regular sleep), surely they also live longer?

In this way, everyone can be optimistic to be beautiful and live longer,
because health maintenance is something can be achieved by effort and not
just by birth..

Uglier people live longer than more uglier people and their unhealthy attitudes are less unhelathy than more uglier people's attitudes

I guess so.

I'm not so sure. Advertising and bombardment with stereotypes does have an effect.

e.g.

Scientists have also found that the body's proportions play an important role in perceptions of beauty as well. In general, men have a preference for women with low waist-to-hip ratios (WHRs), that is, more adipose is deposited on the hips and buttocks than on the waist. Research shows that women with high WHRs (whose bodies are more tube-shaped) are more likely to suffer from health maladies, including infertility and diabetes. However, as is often the case, there are exceptions to the rule.

Psychologists at Newcastle University in England have shown that an indigenous people located in southeast Peru, who have had little contact with the Western world, actually have a preference for high WHRs. These psychologists assert that a general preference for low WHRs is a byproduct of Western culture.

Well, if we're looking at nature then it's definitely the more genetically stronger that have the better coding for reproduction, survival etc.

Of course, but everywhere you go it's symmetry and proportion that dictation beauty.

Btw, I thought we were talking about faces ?

One that allows you to thrive in your environment as opposed to one that doesn't. It's genes btw as in genome..

Living longer improves your reproductive potential? Whats the difference in reproductive rate for beautiful people you think?

On the other hand, it wouldn't be surprising if there were 'looking good' genes that act to bypass general fitness. This would cause a fluctuation in how relevant looks are to fitness.

It used to.

You mean within the group
Or versus not beautiful people ? Obviously not a lot these days.
Are humans the only species walking the earth ???

Yeah, looking good doesn't always equate to fitness. Most girls/young women see extreme thinness as beautiful and want to look like they haven't eaten for a month.

If our hominid ancestors had thought like that we wouldn't exist.
