Very little "law" truly applies in an international forum setting.
The gist of the complaint is more a "community's" sense of what
should be considered private. Oph's complaint strikes me as
wholly valid - hence my acknowledgement and my apology.

I personally don't give a shit if everyone prints out the contents of their pm folders. I've never seen any inherent quality of pm's which make them immune from public disclosure.
One must choose whether or not one wishes to do so.
But, I can certainly see how public disclosure of a confidential report would be breach of privacy.
People report posts with the assumption that their report will be confidential. It's true that no promise of confidentiality is stated on the report page, but still, it's almost a given.
But, if that confidentiality doesn't exist, then they may well choose not to use the report function in the future.
It's up to the mods, I suppose, whether they want to encourage or discourage the use of the report function.

Well except a week ago or so.. I was so pissed off about something unrelated that I think I reported someone for being stupid. I cannot quite remember.
i report a post usually because it's spam.
i can't think of any specific post i reported for other than that. although i have reported that mods read a certain page of a thread.
i have never assumed my reports and PMs about other posters to mods to be private.

I have reported a couple of posts.
There was that rap battle thing in philosophy. I reported that.
I also reported a couple of Perplexity's posts. But only after becoming really really really disgusted by his behavior and his inability to prevent himself from continually crossing the line.
I openly stated that I was going to start reporting him should he broach his favorite subject.
And I did.
Although... only once or twice, I think...
I really can't think of any other instances where I've reported a post...

. I should not have said what I said and while his reply was over the top, he has a bad temper and yes he over-reacted, but that was that. He's a racist yes. But so are many other members who remain for reasons that are unfathomable to me. Baron will never agree with anyone in Sciforums. He enjoys playing the devils advocate because he likes to argue. So in regards to the Foley thread, I shouldn't have said what I said and if he's going to be banned for his reply to me, I should be banned also for what I said to him.
