As an Atheist what do you teach kids?

My parents never mentioned religion at all. I didn't even know what it was until I was about seven. I laughed my ass off.

My Mom was so worried I'd end up in a cult (the Moonies freaked her out big time) that she always told me to question what was said. Little did she know I'd question our own religion. So...
I've always told my kids that their purpose on earth was to be the best humans they could

... It's not like anyone come back to tell the tale.
" Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who
Before us pass’d the door of Darkness through,
Not one returns to tell us of the Road,
Which to discover we must travel too. "

From stanza 64 of The Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam as translated (the fifth time / version) by Edward FitzGerald

PS this great Persian philosophical poet died in 1122, at time when westerners of Europe were just leaning how to wipe their ass. If you look down upon the standard Muslim culture, recall that.

There! Now was that so hard? . . . [is exactly what I want to say to parents who fail to teach their kids this vital lesson]
