I haven't watched the Colbert Report (two silent "t"s), but the Daily Report seems, by its construction and by the information that it brings in from credible sources, to be at least as accurate as any other news outlet. It also seems to give good details that are lacking in many other reports, and with a sardonic sense of humor, the reporters state what is obviously true and absurd. Unfortunately the truth is usually absurd when any politician does anything these days.

The military is not a political organization or a social testing ground. It has very few reasons to exist beyond: defence of the nation against aggressors and protecting the interests of the nation through intimidation, and when that fails, efficient annihilation of the "enemy". The justification for dismissing anyone or anything that might interfere with that mission must be a military one. If the perception of the military is that gay soldiers interfere with efficient operation, then it's up to some other agency to demonstrate, beyond a doubt, that this isn't the case.
I have no idea if this is indeed the case. But are they justified? Sure, until someone changes their mind.
