Ah, the young. They always think that their views are the only valid ones. And permit me to inform you: your bigotry is showing.

Isn't marriage a religious institution? Why does it matter if anyone is polygamous, polyandrous or androgynous hermaphrodite? Rationally speaking is there a reason to get uptight about it?

In all cultures, marriage is performed by religious rites, its only lately that civil marriage has been adopted. Thats a gesture towards the nonreligious, but essentially the purpose of marriage is religious sanction of a relationship.

The question in the poll is, "Are Mainstream Mormons polygamists?"

The answer is, "No, 0% of mainstream Mormons are polygamists, since anyone who practices polygamy is quickly excommunicated from the Church." Mainstream Mormons don't consider splinter groups to be "Mormons" at all.

From my link:

"Mormon doctrine states that in order to enter the highest heaven that those who enter must be living in polygamy. Mormon doctrine also states that we believe in being subject to the laws of the land, insofar as those laws protect individual rights. So for the time being, the largest Mormon sect, the LDS church, has decided it is more important to live the laws of the land than those of God. Other Mormon faiths have made a different choice in the matter, and practice polygamy in defiance of the unjust laws of the land."

Followed up with this:

"Polygamy still happens among members of the LDS church, just so long as those practicing in it are discrete, but not a moment longer."

Sorry, Q, but that is false doctrine. Polygamy is not essential to salvation, nor do ANY Mormons practice it discreetly. If they do and are found out, the Church readily excommunicates them. Yes, there are polygamists in Utah. No, none of them are mainstream LDS.

Again, what is the problem with polygamy, polyandry or hermophrodity?

As the government sees it, I guess the problem is with potential abuse, i.e. underage weddings, statutory rape, incest, etc.

When polygamy is sanctioned by God and practiced in righteousness, there is no problem with it.

So the problem is of legal consent, rather than polygamy.

You are free to defend your assertions, however strongly they are refuted.

Are YOU in that type of relationship? Why not?

Do I need to determine what is acceptable by what I consider acceptable for myself?

If I do not believe in abortion for myself for instance, does this imply that no one else should be free to have one?

If legal consent is set, do you have any issues with people choosing to have multiple partners, for any reason?

Regardless of the potential and evidential abuse?

I said, "When sanctioned by God and practiced in righteousness." What part of "righteousness" includes abuse? Of course polygamy is wrong if abuse is present. So is monogamy.
