It was probably more about getting rid of a pesky female that inadvertently showed they were no more than ignorant sex starved crazy arogant and ineffectual males neither at home with real men nor real females.
Alex
Well yes, but there was a lot more involved. Hypatia was branded by Cyril as an "atheist witch" and on his orders was killed by a mob of religious "monks". Hypatia was beloved by the people of Alexandria at the height of its cultural influence. She was no mere "pesky female", she was a great teacher and cultural force.
Cyril immediately closed the great Library of Alexandria and schools of higher learning.
He also practised religious "cleansing".
For his participation and efforts Cyril was canonized by the Church as reward.

This example of pure evil creates a grotesque image in my mind of how deep rationalization for committing heinous acts in the name of a greater Authority can run. It;s scary.

Borrowed a lot of genetic stuff from a lot of different species

Don't know if you are serious but no evolution not work that way

evolved these attributes all by itself

Would have liked it if it had gone around and pinched what it liked / wanted from different species

:)
Lol, of course not. I was referring to a common ancestor which split into mammalian and reptilian life and left a remnant species of its original DNA, only to evolve some of those very old beneficial traits naturally with attributes normally found in other species. Isolation from predation and procreation pressures can be of great assistance in survivability of these rare species.

Clearly he had the hots for her.
She was no mere "pesky female", she was a great cultural force.

Well if a cultural force that would confirm that in the eyes of her killers that she was indeed a pesky female.

What I find somewhat disappointing is that no believers have come forward to tell us that she got all she deserved.

Heck her female arogance was a complete afront to God who clearly laid out the subserviant role he gave to slaves goats and females.

And to think there are folk who still come down on the side of this arogant superstitious stupid condecending hateful thoughtless self serving irresponsible superstitious pedantic crappy approach to reality.
How could one side with so much that is wrong.
How can these folk look at their sorry image in the mirror knowing that all that looks back supports a notion devoid of compassion or decency and crambed packed with stuff all decent humans should not only reject but to fight against when ever its nastyness seeps out like soft sewerge seeps through a crack in the pipe having no use or course to follow other than the meanderings a thoughless mass of crap must do in the absence of reason or direction.
And just how many folk have died at the hands of crazy believers...it is so sad when one realises all the horror and suffering comes from belief in something that has yet to be shown to exist.

If I were to write something I want people to believe, I would be inclined to make it much nicer & more palatable. Evidently, that is not the way to go. People need it to be childish, absurd, nasty, malicious & cruel.

Existential fear.
But never fear, in the end there always awaits eternal bliss and in some heavenly places you might even find 40 virgins who will greet you with great affection.

Supposed eternal bliss for some while most suffer horribly. I could not be happy as long as some suffer. How can people look forward to that. Just knowing people are suffering eternally would be hell enough for me.

Not addressed to me but as a retired Registered Nurse I can answer

Many times I witnessed a "should have died but didn't" event

Conclusion - the evidence used by the medical staff (of which I was one) was incorrect

Of course it could also be said us angels from heaven performed miracles but we are to modest to make such claims

We could claim to have been well taught how to handle various human medical events and to gain experience though repeating such events

Though flushing out a teenage girls stomach repeatedly (that's different girls) so many times you could do it on auto pilot became tiresome and you waited for a newbie to train and hand over the flush out mantel

However having performed said miracles the box of chocolates was always welcomed

I miss delivering babies the most

Not a miracle but damn close

Oh, the body's subconscious control functions can be remarkably resilient . Unless your body receives overwhelming shock or severe damage to a critical organ, your body will continue to function for a long time until you become braindead from lack of blood and/or oxygen.

I would call it a probabilistically low potential event with a "good" outcome. A "one in a thousand"

p.s. In a Texas Hold-Em poker game I once drew a 7 card royal flush (8 -----> Ace). That's a "one in forty three thousand" probability event. Won a few free pokerchips, no miracles for me, it seems.
///
The probability of drawing a royal flush is the same as the probability of drawing any other card combination.

I don't think it's that simple. A Royal Flush is in the same suit, in an ultimate sequential order from "ace" to "eight", not any other random card drawing. Mpreover it is a specific pattern which appears only in only four possible 7 card draws. The term "royal flush" determines only four possible 7 card sequences, that is by; spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs.
No mix or match.....:) There is no greater value hand in all of poker. It's the hardest to get.

So to duck and weave? or to platt a puss is the only question☺

Or pick stuff at random from The Animal Parts bins with a ragging headache and non focusing eyes

I wondered...if the intelligent designer was so clever why is it that millions of designs exist.

They assembled themselves from bits which dropped off the bench
