The beta version of EM&J Action Notes is closed, long after its intended termination date. Click the above link for that record. This is the new list of moderator action notes.

Included are post edits and deletions, thread deletions and transfers, and other major actions undertaken by the moderator. Warnings and suspensions will be noted, though not by name.

Not included in this record will be spam thread deletions. Administrators are welcome to include their notes, but did not in the prior version, and are not expected to in this record.

The thread serves as a record for the membership to observe. It is closed to comment; any inquiries or criticism should be directed to the acting authority via Private Message. The administration may, on occasion, override the moderator, but the reverse simply does not happen. If an action is taken by a higher authority, the lower authority cannot directly override that decision.

Thank you.

Multiphasic moderation

• "Essay on sex ed" — Thread closed for hideous digression. Topic post and seven responses salvaged to new thread; two of those responses have been edited to remove discussion of content otherwise left behind.

Thread edit

• "FGM in America" — Edited title.

Note: While I bore no personal objection to the original phrasing, it is a long standard at Sciforums to keep certain words out of thread titles. While we welcome all users, we do hope to discourage the number of people who drop by simply because they were looking up certain words which can be perceived in a pornographic context through various search engines. As the thread topic itself is valid, and the phrasing unobjectionable within that context, I should stress that there is no member offense in this case.

Variety pack

• "Woman throws cat in bin!" — I believe the current count is three posts deleted as off-topic, four edited for insulting content, and three more edited to strike moderated content.

Note: Nobody gets flagged for this one, but, really, folks ... come on. Please?

Update: Two more posts edited that I missed on the first pass; the numbers above have been adjusted to include these actions.

Closure

• "I'm right! If you don't agree....!" — Duplicate thread merged; duplicate topic post struck; thread title corrected to reflect intended spelling ("I"/"If"); topic closed.

Note: As performance art goes, this wasn't a horrible thread. But it really didn't go anywhere. I believe the internet custom would be to describe this one as, "Fail".

Closure

• "When does no, mean no?" — Thread closed for general degeneration.

Note: What? It's a better shot than deleting that many posts. Ego contests just aren't a healthy use of our time.

Post deletion

• "Offensive PETA ad / Animal ethics?" — Two posts deleted as off topic.

Update: Re-examination of the thread according to member request has resulted in the deletion of one more post as off topic. Addtionally, a post has been edited to strike off topic material.

Update 2: Two short, consecutive, related posts merged into one; see Section F (Consecutive Posting) of the Forum Rules, Regulations, and Recommendations (v.2.3).

Post edit

• "'It's a child not a choice...but not if you were raped'" — One post edited; original on file.

Note: I would only remind that if one sets up a thread to be a fight instead of a discussion, they will, likely, eventually get what they want. This is not a rational or productive approach. And it is not one that will win much sympathy if moderators find themselves compelled to act.
