A Swastika is NOT the symbol featured the card from 1907. Nazi Symbol is a swastika looks quite different ! This symbol you see on the card is proplerly called a Flyflot!

I don't see how it's not a swastika.

Well, sure you can call it a Swastika as far as identifying its shape. But 1907 . . . its got nothing to do with the 3rd Reich, they actually co-opted that symbol. And so we associate it with them now.

that doesn't make it a different symbol
and their origin is one
and anyways, what's your problem with swastika?, it's an ancient symbol
I suspect that you simply don't like that it was used by the Nazi regime.

Well, I don't like that it was used by the Nazi's either. But I recognize that they co-opted a much older symbol for their own uses.

They didn't coopt it.

They used it as part of a contiguous tradition of Indo-European symbols dating back to before Buddhism.

The Swastika comes in two forms, and is related to many similar symbols.

One form is male (the NSDAP version, minus tilt) and the other female (commonly seen in Japan and other predominantly Buddhist countries).

So . . . the Nazi's used it in the tradition of those old Indo-European symbols?

:bugeye:

Considering it's a sun worship symbol, and the Nazis were pagan idealists, yes.

(Others will weigh in differently.)

Actually, its quite on topic - since you said "the Nazis were pagan idealists". Well, perhaps they were idealists - but then so were Stalin & Mussolini. And so is Bin Ladin. Certainly they all were very strong idealists.

And, in any case -- your little sidestep of an answer there, got me curious, and a simple visit to your profile certainly gave me an answer.

Scary.

Pagan idealists? And here I always thought they were fascists that (ironically) used old iconography and ideals to motivate the people...

You guys don't read books or are dense.
1) when a symbol is changed in anyway it is a completely different symbol

2) Nazis were not pegan at all. The decree of Facism/ Nazism states all religion is inferior to the state. You are insulting pegan followers (aboriginese) in northern Europe by saying Nazis were pegan.

3) No this symbol ( Flyflot) was taken by Hireicht Himmler during his journey to Tibet.
This was a Buddhist symbol. Still is! You guys really don't read factual info much do you?

What exactly is your problem?

First, I do agree that calling fascist pagans is ridiculous, the declared aim of fascism was to destroy everything old and create a new and modern world. That they used pagan ideology and symbols is ironic, but ultimately served to justify their behavior at least in Germany, that results in a twisted way of fascism that has no real basis.

And yes, the swastika was a buddhist symbol, just as it was an indo germanic symbol and it was used in many other religions/cultures, still it is a swastika since that is not only the description for a nazi symbol but also the description of a geometrical figure. You do not think that the Nazis created a single one of their symbols themself...

I think a swastika was quite common as a symbol for the god Donar, and there are references to it being called the sun-cross in southern region, so what is your point?
