$5 billion in new government grants to fight cancer, autism and heart disease...
The new stimulus bill includes $10 billion for NIH. More than $1 billion of it would be directed to work on genetic research that could identify the causes and cures for ailments ranging from heart and lung disease to blood diseases and autism. It includes $175 million for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to collect more than 20,000 tissue samples from more than 20 cancers, and determine in detail all of the genetic changes in thousands of these tumor samples.
The cancer study involves more than 150 scientists at dozens of institutions around the country...

Is this our tax money well-spent? Has recent research produced any life-saving results?
 
Sounds good to me! Look how much we spend on the Pentagon for the same purpose (to save lives).
 
You want results BEFORE you invest? That makes no sense. Science has already proven it's ability to treat disease.
 
We eliminated polio from the planet. We have all sorts of advanced medical practices. The same ones you are proud of when you say the US has the best medical care in the world.

I'm talking the last 5 years. How much have we spent? Did we get our money's worth?
Polio is not eradicated. The criminal aliens brought it back along with whooping cough, cholera, diphtheria,TB, plague, leprosy, smallpox, malaria, viral hemorrhagic fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Eboli, Crimea-Congo, South American, SARS...
It was never eradicated from the planet but was from the USA.

I like science. I support money for research. But we have people who want us dead/destroyed. We busted 4 of them in the past 2 weeks. I disagree it's the same purpose. National security is not the same as preventing/treating disease.
 
I agree it's not the same. Preventing disease is far more important, because the potential to kill people is far greater.

I don't support big gov. I am all for LESS, SMALLER gov. My interest is in keeping Americans alive.

Without Big Gov you would not have such an advanced military. No state would have developed missile technology by itself to the degree the Big Gov military now rely on. There would be no GPS, no spy satellites.

Supporting our troops/military has nothing to do with big government. It has everything to do with honor, dignity, common sense and patriotism. I support spending a lot of money on keeping America safe from her enemies. I support money for science, too.
 
This is stupid. We already know what causes cancer. There are thousands of things found to be carcinogenic. The cure for cancer is to prevent it. If you don't want cancer, then stop putting carcinogenic crap into your body that causes it duuurrr. There give me 175 million dollars.
