I upgraded to Xp and i find it runs better than 98 but one thing is annoying me

can someone tell me what setings to change so that when i press " it comes up as that insted of for example ä that

thanks

Assuming you mean what i think you do you need to change your keyboard settings so they match with where your keyboard was made, if you live in america most likely you need american setting, you get the idea, im sure the option is in the control panel somewhere.

hang on
what its doing is making it so insted of defulting to being a talking mark i have to press space after it or it become (if the next letter is an a) á or for an O it becomes ö

But i dont WANT acents i type in english not french so i want to turn it off cause i keep having to go back and edit everything i write

Yeh alphas got it, thats what i meant, you probably have it set to spanish or something.

Better yet, change it to English (Australia). Damn you Alpha, the US is not the centre of the world //shakes fist

Well, I think that depends on the map you are using, as far as I know, America is the middle of the world on american maps. On a european map, Europe is in the middle...
It is all a matter of perspective :D

But it sounds like Asguard has the settings on German (just a wild guess),
Is there an extra option for Australian English? ... Yes, there is, then I would also advice to choose that.
BTW, where is the difference between australian and american English?

Sounds like maybe you have problems with the automatic replacement of " with the specialized one that looks like ``, only closer together. The specialized quotation mark always shows up funny when I get an email from them and I use Pine to read it. There should be an option to turn that replacement off in MS Office and OpenOffice.

The UK is in the centre as do not many people use the whole GMT +/- set up? GMT is the centre which includes UK, Portugal and some parts of Africa.

Anyway, as Asgard is Aussie that's the way to go. I have no idea how Australian English is different to Standard English (English English)

Africa is in the center and then UK is on top.. :p

Australian English is British..

Australian english IS english, the only difference is in the slang and the words we use

The reason there is an American english is because they cant SPELL:p or use gramma:p

But anyway the Keyboard is set to US international and the language is australian

it seems like a special functon like but i dont know how to turn it off

Edit to add:

im very embarised now, when i changed it to US only rather than US international it went away.

Thank you

DAM AMERICANS:p

I'm not even in the US, I just said En-US because that's the standard keyboard layout.
