Well, sports fans, while "Big League" brawls between belligerents like Crazy Ivan and Team Ukraine, and the perpetually pugilistic plurality of combatants crowding the Middle East Front capture the world's attention, a cancerously corrosive conflict continues to claim its victims in Eastern Africa.

While producing a seemingly paltry body count of about 15,000 dead in 2 years, this insidious little sizzler has punched well above it's weight class by displacing a colossal count of over 8 million people (3 million children alone displaced inside and outside the country) . - with an astounding twenty-five million people in the region in need of humanitarian/food aid and facing possible starvation !

Ethnic cleansing... ...mass atrocities... ...“one of the worst humanitarian nightmares in recent history”...
This baby's straight outta the dark side, folks.

Will the major powers intervene on behalf of the victims ?
Can a solution be found to bring the opposing forces to the peace table before the conflict becomes regional ?
The world wonders !

As the civil war enters its second year, Sudan’s two warring factions remain locked in a deadly power struggle. Since the conflict began on April 15, 2023, almost 15,000 people have been killed, and more than 8.2 million have been displaced, giving rise to the worst displacement crisis in the world. Nearly 2 million displaced Sudanese have fled to unstable areas in Chad, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, overrunning refugee camps and prompting concerns that Sudanese refugees could soon attempt to enter Europe. The UN continues to plead for more support as more than 25 million need humanitarian assistance, and deteriorating food security risks triggering the “world’s largest hunger crisis.” Meanwhile, mediation efforts have failed to produce results as the leaders of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) refuse to halt their violence, and regional and international actors have taken sides in the war. The United States indicated that negotiations may resume in Saudi Arabia on April 18, but the World Food Programme’s Carl Skau warned, “we are running out of time.”

In 2024, every second person in Sudan (24.8 million people) will need humanitarian assistance. While this overall figure remains on par with estimates in 2023, the “catastrophic” severity of needs has been observed now in 17 localities (in comparison to 14 localities estimated in May 2023) almost half of which are in the Darfur region. It is important to note that the severity of needs in this case was primarily driven by widespread and systematic violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.5

The possible evolution of the crisis remains highly unpredictable with crossline movement of staff and supplies experiencing increasing obstacles. Civilians, particularly women, children and girls, will continue to bear the brunt of the crisis if no lasting political solution is in sight.

No doubt other "proto-genocidal" or developing hotspots in the world do attract some protesters (even the Uygurs plight occasionally does). But somehow, over the years, they have seemed more neglected in terms of media attraction and especially widespread activist outrage. Whether they are deemed by observers as the victims or the oppressors, Jewish Israeli entanglements are a desirable favorite with respect to both garnering heavy attention and fervid social-justice crusaders. Could that pesky little anti-Semitism bug lurking across the spectrum of Left-Right punditry be ever vigilant for a camouflaged opportunity to jump out? "Only their makeup artists know for sure." ;)
