KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces surrounded a rebel hide-out in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, and the number of insurgents killed from three days of fighting rose to 102, the defense ministry said.

The battle was one of the deadliest since the Taliban's ouster more than three years ago and was sure to add to growing anxiety that an Iraq-style conflict is developing here.

``A total of 102 Taliban have been killed since the fighting started on Tuesday,'' Defense Ministry spokesman Zahir Marad said, 26 more than were reported on Wednesday evening. ``These deaths will have a huge impact on the rebels. Many are trying to flee. But we have them surrounded.''

The U.S. military Wednesday put the rebel death toll at 49. Lt. Cindy Moore, a spokeswoman for the force, said there had been no update since then and referred questions to the Afghan government.

Gen. Salim Khan, commander of 400 Afghan policemen who took part in the fighting, said the insurgents had been hit hard.

``Their camps were decimated. Bodies lay everywhere. Heavy machine guns and AK-47s were scattered alongside blankets, kettles and food,'' he told The Associated Press. ``Some of the Taliban were also killed in caves where they were hiding and U.S. helicopters came and pounded them.''

But we can't go get Osama, even though we seem to know where he is? For some righteous warriors of freedom, the Bush administration really is a bunch of pussies.

thats cool... i dont care what you say:) haha everyones making fun of bush... but really lets have a look at Clinton's shitty economy that bush is bending over backwards to fix... but these stubborn liberals will never know :/

Yeah, Clinton's economy- prosperity for everyone, a budget surplus, trade tower bombers in jail, we can't have any of that.

uh huh.. now why dont u name all the down sides?? will sciforums let a "quick post" take a whole up a whole page?

He is apparently holed up in one of the planets most twisted and broken landscapes. It is essentially the ass end of the world. You try conducting a search somewhere where there are hardly even roads. On top of that, he has the support of the local hicks.

Yeah. The prosperity the elder Bush set in motion.
Clinton rode it for all it was worth before the natural boom and bust cycle eroded it away... just in time for him to pawn it off on the next president.

"Prosperity"? You are a moron dude.

Educate yourself, this is probably too much reading for you (sorry its not on TV) but here: http://mwhodges.home.att.net/hodges.htm

And look up every graph you want to, they are from places like the US Treasury Department. We are F*ucked.

Yeah, you know - the instant info these days: radio, TV, internet - has perhaps shortened our sense of time. But the fact is, every generation or two has experienced a true radical challenge. A great depression, a World War, a global plague . . . etc. Our foreshortened sense of time makes such ideas seem radical, but unfortunately (for my children) they are inevitable.

Hell, these psycho brains even critisize people for *bringing up* the possibility of a serious crisis. As if to see the possibility of a problem is to ENCOURAGE the problem.

Right. Like I want my beautiful 6 year old girl and 2.5 year old boy to suffer?! Not. But I know that by looking towards all the possibilitys I'm at least a bit more prepared to try and help them survive.

If you don't believe anything bad is possible at all, why have fire/car/theft/health insurance?

The mid to late 1990s is the time most Americans want to get back to. It was an economic boomtime of massive proportions. Many were optomistic, feeling that things were getting better every day. Few felt any danger from other countries or foreign terrorists, believing that the only possible source of danger would be from some solo, homegrown nutcase like the unibomber.

Heck, the biggest thing most people worried about was that stupid Y2K crisis. They were good times, though the peace was merely the calm before the storm. The delusion was nice and would be worth reliving if could afford to. Now, however, we have to circle the wagons.

Well, I live on a self-sufficient farm. And we have been planning these last few years on the fact that another difficult time could be coming. We have not withdrawn from society like some seperationaist nutcases, armed and hiding behind walls. We are happy and active community members. And we HOPE the shit doesn't hit the fan.

But if it does, we can feed ourselves, provide our own heat and have our own water. How about you, how is your insurance city-boy? :)

" Yeah, Clinton's economy- prosperity for everyone, a budget surplus, trade tower bombers in jail, we can't have any of that."

Wow, the trade bombers were in jail but Clinton turned down the Bin Ladin offer....goooooo Clinton.

Ok, assuming that Clinton did turn down "the Bin Ladin offer", what would we have held him on. 'He's a terrorist and we are trying him for....well for being....you know....bad'. Problem is, he hadn't done anything to the US at the time, and, contrary to popular belief, Clinton is not a psychic.

Now for the real juicy stuff. Clinton has flat out denied that he was ever offered Bin Laden. Hmm, as I know you won't believe him...how about this:

The 9-11 Commission found "no reliable evidence to support" that there was a 1996 offer from Sudan to hand Osama bin Laden over to the United States.

This isn't a jury trial here. 'Reasonable doubt' doesn't factor into the equation here.
And we shouldn't have arrested him... we should have just have made him vanish off the face of the earth.

This is one of those moments where I don't care about being nice.

Sudan didn't actually offer Bin Laden to Clinton.

From mediamatters.com talking about Sean Hannity's repeated lie to that effect.

Clinton further refuted the allegation in a June 20 interview on CBS's 60 Minutes. He said: "There was a story which is factually inaccurate that the Sudanese offered bin Laden to us. ... As far as I know, there is not a shred of evidence of that."

Even I, who feels that Clinton was a giant ameoba, had the tact not to touch that here. Please go do your trolling elsewhere.
