Why ask?
Non-Christians don't see any mature reason, so is this rhetorical directed towards Christians?
If it is directed at Christians, they believe in God which is feat in itself. With them, they don't need a reason. They pray for the same reason...they have faith, so why ask? It doesn't need to make sense when you ignore reason because you have faith.
Sorry Christians! You have to choose to have faith in god or not. I would rather not have a choice to believe, and therefore have faith in something seen than to choose to believe and trust something that is unseen. To have faith in god is to pretend that he is real, because for all purposes he must be real in your mind, in order for you to truly have faith. If I ever have faith again, it will because it was given for me to accept...not my choice. It's a universal law to not have a choice to believe if any of what we perceive is honestly real. It's absurd really to try to mess with that law. Yet God asks it, to go against everything we know to be true. Poppycock!
Christians have faith without seeing, hearing, or touching...they're supposed to. Anyway, I have had it with choosing ignorance. It does more harm than good. I will accept the facts. If they someday point to a god, fabulous. I will not pretend anymore. As a Christian it was like playing with an imaginary friend. Well, my imaginary friend is a jerk, so it was easy to choose to accept reality.
What any good Christian would tell you is that you should pray for God's will to be done in the situation.
Some Christians have the notion that God wants a personal relationship, so you are to ask him for things as if he is not omnicscient.
What I think, is that it helps to talk to my dog about a problem. Now, they don't have any way of understanding, but it just helps to voice the concern to someone or something. So, if you are going to pray, just voice your concern. It helps deal with difficult situations...no God required.
