I've read a lot of Jack Chalker and his main protagonists go through a lot of hell. One of them spent years in a pig-like body, eating from a trough. Another couldn't die, though he really wanted to after several ages of the Universe.

I would least like to be the hero of a bossy, confident, sanctimonious, patronising type.

Me too!!!!! On both counts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am of the belief that the world is facing what could turn out to be another 1929 so........
rather drastic out of the box ideas are now worthy of serious consideration.
