does it? It would just require that you be in a different state than dead.;)

Dead is just not being alive though. Right ?
I guess what you mean to say is that you question the validity of the word dead when the physical body has been totally reclaimed by nature.
I meant 'the self' however :)

Maybe 'life-long wish' would be more sensical description.

In that case my life-long wish is good health and happiness.

Well I don't have any life long dreams. I have my family, a nice place to live, nobody is going without anything. That is good enough for me.

Thats true. You cant get through life as a dreamer. Some bad things that can happen to you:

End up poor.
End up dead

Many successful, happy, and uncommonly-influential people ended up literally poor- and for all the rest, "you can't take it with you". Dying wealth seems to me an unreliable measure of a life well-lived.

lol ok :D

you "can't take it with you".

My mom used to always say that to my dad. They never spent money unless it was on bills or food. My mom always had to fight with him to buy anything like Furniture, upgrades on the house anything. It isn't like they didn't have the money either, they were loaded. She passed away a few yrs ago of cancer. Now my dad looks back on it and thinks maybe he should have let her buy the things she wanted, because it would have made her happy.

In some other thread, it may have been gustav who produced the apt Woody Allen quote:
I'm not afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens.

Digging that one up, I also found other musings on dying from WA, who may characteristically obsess on it:
Dying is one of the few things that can be done as easily lying down.

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying.

Anyway, I thought this thread was about dreams and life purpose? I doubt the dead involve themselves in anything, including that.

"my dad looks back on it and thinks maybe he should have let her buy the things she wanted, because it would have made her happy."

Buying things doesn't really make us happy- we're just bombarded with that crazy notion by marketers. Since he looks back with love, I suspect he didn't deny her happiness.

Buying things doesn't really make us happy. Since he looks back with love, I suspect he did just fine.

Well when you work your asses off like they did. I think it would have been nice to let her endulge here and there without making a big fuss and arguments.
I have come to accept he will never change. He was in the war and also in a prison camp. He was in line ups where they took every second person out and shot them, etc. He appreciates next to nothing. He can't stand to see ppl waste food, or buy all kinds of material things. I get it now. As a kid I thought he was just a cheap bugger. I guess when you are so set in your ways it's hard to change.

Yep. I'm sorry for him- but it sounds like he still does overcome all that, in momentary spite of it all. And at some point, we're all really standing in line to be shot.

 He needs to hire a roofer (but apparently won't).

I don't expect I'll be any less stubborn when I get older, though.

Somehow something rubbed off on me though because I get pretty creative sometimes when I fix things. My B/f jokes when I do and says..........
