At what point do you give up on your life long dream?

1. never
2. when it becomes "improbable" that you will realize it.
3. when it becomes "impossible" that you will realize it.
4. dreaming is a waste of time.
 
It depends upon what your dream is. If it is something like world peace then never give up but if it is owning the Taj Mahal or other historic landmark than quit now!;)

I never had a "lifelong dream", but do not consider dreaming "a waste of time". It certainly works for other people.

So none of the above.
 
At your last heartbeat, it is time to embrace reality....
 
When you realize that life is meaningless and nothing that you do matters in the long term. I gave up ages ago...
 
vision, or a long term goal / life-long dream acts as a guide to all sub-goals. They are important to create and explicate.
