When somebody in Pakistan asks you to marry them

Lets say I put the behaviour of individuals over what is enshrined in law. I think human quality comes across much better in interactions than it does in books.

Post America, its my belief that any society where whites are in power cannot really escape racism. After all, America is the best there is offer in integration of whites. And this is where I first experienced it.

True and when I experience racism in them, I'll let you know. I tend to be myself where I am, so I let other peoples behaviour speak for themselves.
It's also not about racism or America, SAM. Stay on topic or go away.

Its about attitude to women, isn't it? Maybe if you want to narrow down the topic to what you think it is, you should moderate accordingly.

So how does that relate to racism, America, black vs. white, or westerners vs. Muslims?

Unlikely: both in your reporting and that you come from a middle-class caste, if I've recalled correctly. Feel free to contradict honestly.

Just look at the thread title. Apparently all Pakistani women are married under coercion. A similar thread title on the English [which was not even as demonising] was immediately moderated by Stryder

Guess it helps to have your community represented to ensure that the bias only follows one direction.

You can say practically anything about coloured peoples [do black men have big cocks?] and it will pass muster.

The title of the thread actually was excessive: this is actually correct.

But it's an extreme representation of the problem: women's rights in Pakistan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_Pakistan

Why should I be recalcitrant to damn a system that I would not hesitate to damn if the perpetrators were of any other group?

Which is why I was condemning all white people for the constant wars that have made violence a way of life in these societies.

Can I do that? I mean, white people are occupying them as we speak. American, Australian, Dutch, British.

As far as I'm concerned the thread is about about the practice, that exist in some areas, of trowing acid in womens faces.
The thread does not suggest that all Pakistani women are married under coercion, nor does it suggest that all Pakistani men throw acid in the womans face when they get rejected by her. It does suggest that in places like Pakistan there is a significantly increased risk for women to being treated that way.

Yes, you can do that.. in your own thread.

What would be the point of condemning white occupation of Pashtun villages leading to increased war and violence in these societies in some other thread?

Then you are off-topic. Start another thread if you hate white people. (Well...I mean start another thread actually, I guess.)

Or you could try my neat moral/epistemological position: despise the philosophies and attitudes that have got us to any point in our evolving history, rather than the people espousing such philosophies. Then you won't even have to edit your posts! I call this philosophy not being a freaking bigot. Give it a shot; apply twice if necessary.

lol Just stay on topic. Seriously.

it is the topic. White occupation of many Asian countries has destoryed their social structure and increased violence against women and children. With all Varda's self righteousness, there is evidence of similar torture of women and children [as young as 3 years old] by sexual and physical violence wherever the "enlightened peoples" come to liberate the backward natives from their backward, unenlightened ideologies [including Brazil].

Acid throwing is not culture or religion, its something that has come to the region only 20 years ago. Its a reflection of the violence that people there already live in.

You cannot ignore the unmanned drones that spatter body parts, the white phosphorus, the missiles, the hunger and poverty and somehow think that these young men just woke up one morning and decided to take out some cultural anger on some women.

I've read studies of family stress post 9-11 in places far away from NY and it really flabbergasts me that people who study this stuff have to taught what would happen if there was a 9-11 24/7 all year around in your neighborhood for decades, sometimes centuries.

The technology of women's abuse has not the slightest to do with the central issue of women's rights. Perhaps you could blame Western civilization for starting the spread of the idea that women are as worthy of rights as men - a fallacious and injurious meme to be sure. No?

So are you saying that these women have no rights?
Are you saying that they should just marry the guy or face the consequences?

Thats what James would say, they should juts compromise with the oppression because thats the only solution. If the men are victims too, who can we hold responsible?

In theory, they have rights, but in practice its unrealistic to aim for equality.

They should just get used to it.
