Thats usually how the data is seen. Socio economic status correlates to violence against women. Sometimes landed "gentry" are also prone to it, when power issues are at play. In Anglo-Indian writings for instance, the rape of Indian women by white men was common under colonialism, the instances of rape of white women by Indian men became common in literature after the mutiny.

The power over women is a frequent corollary in colonial writings [where settlers come to "virgin" lands, for instance and "save" them from their pagan overlords]. You can see the same theme in current wars, where everyone is saving women by massacring their families. Note that the women saved generally only live in the countries already invaded, under occupation or about to be invaded. Womens rights in allied countries have very little need for review. Note that you never actually see, hear or know the opinions of these liberated women, since they are not really important enough to get media time, unless they have been disfigured by the enemy

I don't know how you can compare an act of violence by a foreign people who are at war with you with an act of violence of someone from your town, who was supposed to marry you.

One is a war crime, the other is a passion crime. Completely different things.
Also, if throwing acid on people's faces is how they control them, maybe they need to be saved after all.

Besides, I'd take a rape over a burned face anyday.

I don't think the allies are particularly interested in rescuing the women either, since they also tend to rape their own female troops [aside from the local women] while the occupation is going on. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see how the white troops behave towards these Afghani/Pakistani women if race is a confounder to respect.

I think you should stop trying to change the subject here. This thread is not about war at all.

Domestic violence by and large is pretty consistent worldwide. Whether rich or poor, all countries have it. It just correlates better with SE status than other indicators.

And yet, I've never seen a burned face in person in my life. Maybe you just put more weight on emotional scars than I do, and I put too much weight on physical scars. But fuck, if I had been raped our of my pride, I could still walk around and not be stared and pointed at, and I could still get a normal job.

I supposed you could also say that they are just that ass backwards. Pakistan and India have been fighting among themselves all that time and, for that, you can't blame the west.

And just keep in mind that I come form a post colonial country, myself.

Because the article comes with credits to the people who wrote them and made the photos. The writer is from St. Petesburg Times and the photographer is from Associated Press.
 
Yeah I would take rape over face melted off definitely.

I can go home after being raped and scrub my skin clean. 3rd degree facial burns, not so much.

In the West many men kill their girl friends, their wives and even their children . Unless the camel starts seeing its own hump it can not realize the world truth.....:D:D .
How many children were apprehended by the Children Aids in the West ?. How many women live in shelters in the West ?.
Yes and yes my friend; family and children problems are everywhere and this is very unfortunate .
 
I don't know if men in Kurdistan are the same, but I had guy who was calling me for a period telling me he loved me and had gotten my number from heaven. He has stopped now, since I stopped responding. Should I be afraid?

Acid control is a big problem... the police system is corrupt.... and the police system in general sucks... you can't expect anything from a illiterate and man-powered nation knowing that the likelihood of getting caught is pretty close to zero.. Although i would have to wonder how can they be so cruel.

Yes corruption is a major reason for similar attacks in India as well. As for how they can be so cruel, it started around 20 years ago and has been getting steadily worse.
 
If I were a head of a region and caught someone who did this, I would bring that person in middle of the public on a stage, have newspaper ads about their public punishment so that everyone can see- and pour the same acid on them and let everyone see the cruelty of the act. And announce that anyone who does this will receive the same punishment. Of course the best example would be someone who was rich so that no rich person can think that they can escape...
