It was a threat in the past. For the modern missiles, they are easy game if they come so close to Russia that their planes may reach it.

Russia does not even plan to hit first. These doomsday weapons have the aim to destroy everything in case of an US first hit. For this aim, the retaliation ability of NATO does not matter at all.

A lot of the usual joepistole fantasies ignored.

LOL...you mean the Russia's modern missiles which can't hit their targets....those "modern missiles". :)

As I said before, while you won't admit it. Putin and his generals know it. That's why they are desperately trying to modernize the Russian Navy. As previously pointed out to you, the US Navy is the largest and the most modern on the planet. Mother Russia's "modern missiles", even if they worked, is no threat to the US Navy. US naval ships have the best anti missile defense systems up to and including laser weapons - weapons Mother Russia doesn't have.

What Mother Russia does have is police women in high heels. :)

Policewomen in high heels and miniskirts probably are not much of a threat to anyone including common criminals. I'd love to see them attempt to chase down and arrest criminals in high heels and miniskirts.

And that's how Russia organizes and manages its military. It's all about the show. It isn't about substance. It isn't about results. It's all about the show. But Russia's military can't even manage a good show.

Either its pilots are so poorly trained they don't know where they are or they are so poorly disciplined they cannot obey orders and violate national airspace laws. And then there is the matter of the hundreds if not thousands of Russian troops who have reported to have died in Syria due to disease and sanitation.

While Mother Russia is retreating in Syria, US special forces have killed the ISIS finance minister. Two weeks ago US special forces captured the ISIS arms chief. How much longer can it be before US special forces capture the ISIS leader?
 
I will revive this thread, which was anyway abandoned because it was more about Russian than Syria, to give a personal opinion about an interview given at https://aftershock.news/?q=node/383177 in Russian language.

First of all, this is about a particular person, Maria Sacharova, I'm not sure about the official position, but it is something close to Jen Psaki ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jen_Psaki ), thus, roughly speaking, the Russian answer to Psaki. I don't know if the American readers are aware of this, but Psaki became, after a short time, a name for American stupidity, with a lot of quotes showing her total incompetence, and resulting in jokes about 1 Psaki being the new unit for measuring stupidity.

I have not cared much about Sacharova, but always had the idea that to have a woman at this position was not an accident. And that not to have such a stupid woman there even more. And, from the everyday stream of information, it was already quite clear that she is indeed not stupid. But this interview with a serious enemy source, Radio Svoboda, the classical CIA radio station directed against the USSR, has really impressed me. A one and half hour interview with a radio station with openly hostile intentions is a serious challenge, and she has mastered this. In a very professional way. I have enough background to estimate as the situation in the Ukraine, as about Syria, and have to admit that all the time she has not made any serious error, anything where I would have been able to give a really better answer. So, really professional. But also likeable on a personal level.

Why is this interesting? Because there is the question who comes after Putin. No human can rule forever, so there is always the question who comes next. And there is, quite often, a problem because many otherwise strong leaders tend to fail to promote other good, clever guys into leading positions, probably because of fear of competition. This does not seem to be a problem of Putin. Lawrow and Shoigu are known to be very qualified and professional. Nabibullina, the chief of the Russian central bank, too. And Sacharova seems to be another example. At least this is my personal impression, after seeing this interview with the enemy.
 
As proudly reported nationwide, Russia's February GDP came in far better than most investors and foreign pooh-poohers expected. It seems as if the brutal recession may indeed be seeing its end in the near future. Putin and his industrious peoples produce economic miracles which could only be rivalled in the West by adding an extra day to the month for that particular year.

So you like attractive women, especially if they promulgate Russian propaganda...ok....nothing new there. But blindly and mindlessly repeating Russian propaganda doesn't make one "smart" anywhere other than Mother Russia. Additionally, in the US Jen Psaki isn't likely to be POTUS. She is a career government employee. Unlike Mother Russia, that isn't the traditional route to POTUS. I cannot think of a single POTUS who has first been a Civil Service employee.

Your "smart" Russian lady comes in a uniform. Jen Psaki doesn't have a military uniform.

Well, who comes after Mother Putin is a question is a question we will not have to worry about until Putin's death which may be some time away. I think it is very clear what Mother Putin intends to do. He doesn't intend to give up power - ever. You need to listen to people. Mother Putina has clearly told everyone he doesn't ever intend to relinquish power. He can't. Because if he did, he couldn't be certain he wouldn't wind up in jail or behind an executioner. Mother Putina can never nor will she ever voluntarily relinquish power else she might wind up facing murder and corruption charges. Mother Putina has already told you she intends to play this tag team game with Dmitry Medvedev where Mother Putina retains all power - title or not -until Mother Putina dies. Medvedev is an inherently weak leader, that's probably why Mother Putina has chosen him. So what happens to Mother Russia after Putin's death remains to be seen. It could well plunge Mother Russia back into chaos. Mother Putina will not tolerate the competition.

I hope you didn't miss the point I was making between the lines in my little rant. They're playing number games with the economic data, shuffling money from one fund to another while claiming net income, squeezing a little more here and there to get by day to day. Russia at the moment basically resembles a human body on a long-term starvation diet. The fat stores are running low, there's not much muscle tissue left to catabolize, next it'll basically eat its own heart and liver up for food.

Given that this personality has been already discussed here: One of the heroes of the moderate rebels and of BBC, the liver-eating guy, has been killed in Latakia by the Syrian army. As many of the "moderate opposition" forces, he was actually fighting for Al Qaida (Al Nusra).

There's a war going on that's likely killed at least 500,000 people and displaced millions more, yet here you are still whining about the same cannibal years later. Is this liver eater the greatest war criminal of the 21st century, or what?

Next you're going to want to invade Kazakhstan or Azerbaijan because you heard that the sewer monster from Stephen King's "It" was taking shelter there.

Rasputin, Poutine, Putain (it's French, look it up)... Lots of perfectly good titles you can give the guy. The only feminine things about him that deserve the "Mother" title are his modest height and flabby pecs.
 
Which starvation? Starvation at home is a not a very important problem. Nor in my home, nor in Russia, which you seem to think is my home.

And if it would be important, I would be unable to do much to change it. You know, the country where I actually live is an US colony, so what local people do has essentially no influence on those in power. To change whatever they want to change, the people would have, at first, get rid of the US colonial administration, which is actually ruled by Merkel. This is rather difficult.
