What should the military do with Hassoun?

Let’s suppose that Hassoun’s story is true. That is, he was taken captive in Iraq and threatened with beheading unless he pledged to leave the US military. Now that he’s safe back in US hands, should he be forced back into service in Iraq?

This is a very weird story. I remember hearing that he may have been captured while deserting in the first place. Though in the end he still contacted the army and put himself back in their custody willingly, and that has to count for something. If he only agreed to leave the army under threat of death though, and once he was able managed to get himself back into their custody he didn’t do anything wrong. They should try to find some not too important assignment that requires a linguist somewhere in Europe or in the US and hope the story doesn’t get any weirder. Definitely get him out of Iraq though, militant groups might make him an extra special target for not properly deserting like he apparently told them he would.

If he's given assignment elsewhere and lying about his story, that'd be one hell of a plot to get out of the fight, wouldn't it?

Yeah, that would be some plot. They should put him in charge of some sort of counter intelligence type activities. Trty to get out of serving in Iraq, end up with a cushy job in the Pentagon.
