I suppose he/she meant the most widespread metabolic pathway in bacteria.
But the question is which kind of metabolism is meant (sugar, nucleic acids, etc.).
As there are some pathways universal to virtually all organisms-
 
This thread is confusing. Metabolism in bacteria cells refers to all the biochemical reactions that occur: oxidation, respiration, fermentation, the Krebs cycle, ATP formation, photosynthesis, autotrophy, the nitrogen cycle. Unless she/he clarifies what is meant, we might as well close this thread.
