is it just me or does most of the religious violence in the world come from monotheistic religion in the modern era. why do these religions seem to incite violence more than polytheistic or henotheistic religions

If you can accomodate many Gods, you can more easily accomodate another culture's Gods.

that can't be all because i know it is outside of the modern era but some ancient polytheistic cultures were brutal and violent

It's there relation to each other respectively. This is similar to have three children competing for a mother's affection. But currently in this modern age the agressions are mostly between Israel and the Arab nations...most of the conflict really has little to do with religion but a bad background going back thousands of years.

Because they are inherently more confrontational in nature.A very "black or white" mentality is stressed in all abrahamic religions and the grey regions are few and far between.
Many pantheistic beliefs do stress attaining enlightement and suggestions for proper living but they do not dwell on the self loathing that is so present in some monotheism. It's accepted that mankind has ignorances (sin) but the idea is to simply strive to improve yourself.

The foward progress of civilization has always been measured by the condition of the lower caste. Even under the most well meaning religion civilization will not spur ahead in poverty. Looking to a religion to build a civilization is akin to asking math and science to build a civilization. That doesn't happen because it is people who build civilization not religions or science or math, people. It's a matter of resources. Abundant resources allow for prosperity.

This is why the US is on the decline. Even in the face of one of the best education systems, the best technology and the best defense the Poor become more poor. Continue this path and road may run out before long.
