Vaccine related autism study?

WATCHUNG, N.J., June 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- "Just months after U.S. Congressman Bill Posey compared the Center for Disease Control (CDC)'s vaccine safety studies to the SEC's Bernie Madoff scandal, malfeasance in the CDC's studies of thimerosal-containing vaccines has, for the first time, been documented in peer-reviewed scientific literature. While the CDC states on its website that "low doses of thimerosal in vaccines do not cause harm, and are only associated with minor local injection site reactions like redness and swelling at the injection site," the journal BioMed Research International now provides direct evidence that the CDC's safety assurances about the mercury-containing preservative are not fact-based, according to the article's lead author, Brian Hooker, PhD.

The paper opens by citing over 165 studies that have found Thimerosal to be harmful, including 16 studies that had reported outcomes in human infants and children of death, acrodynia, poisoning, allergic reaction, malformations, auto-immune reaction, Well's syndrome, developmental delay and neurodevelopmental disorders including tics, speech delay, language delay, ADHD and autism. These findings by multiple independent research groups over the past 75+ years have consistently found thimerosal to be harmful. "Substantial scientific evidence exists and has existed for many years that the vaccine ingredient thimerosal is a developmental neurotoxin" says George Lucier, former Associate Director of the National Toxicology Program.

Studies showing harm from thimerosal sharply contradict published outcomes of six CDC coauthored and sponsored papers – the very studies that CDC relies upon to declare that thimerosal is "safe" for use in infant and maternal vaccines. Dr. Hooker, biochemist and vaccine industry watchdog, said of the six CDC studies, "Each of these papers is fatally flawed from a statistics standpoint and several of the papers represent issues of scientific malfeasance. For example, important data showing a relationship between thimerosal exposure and autism are withheld from three of the publications (Price et al. 2010, Verstraeten et al. 2003 and Madsen et al. 2003). This type of cherry-picking of data by the CDC in order to change the results of important research studies to support flawed and dangerous vaccination policies should not be tolerated."

Dr. Boyd Haley, international expert in mercury toxicity and a co-author of the recently published paper said "There is no doubt that authorities in the CDC have initiated and participated in a cover-up of vaccine-induced damage from thimerosal to our children----and this I consider criminal." The paper, "Methodological Issues and Evidence of Malfeasance in Research Purporting to Show Thimerosal in Vaccines is Safe," was published on June 6 and contains eight pages of evidence that the CDC has had knowledge of the vaccine preservative's neurological risks, yet continues to cover them up.

The paper concludes, "five of the publications examined in this review were directly commissioned by the CDC, raising the possible issue of conflict of interests or research bias, since vaccine promotion is a central mission of the CDC. Conceivably, if serious neurological disorders are found to be related to Thimerosal in vaccines, such findings could possibly be viewed as damaging to the vaccine program."

Dr. Hooker has submitted over 100 FOIA requests to the CDC over the past 10 years and has amassed thousands of pages of documents showing malfeasance in the CDC's vaccine safety program. Hooker revealed that one CDC document quoted a top official instructing CDC employees to "Review all correspondences and documents to see if there is 'foreseeable harm' to the agency if they were released" so the documents could be redacted by CDC attorneys prior to release.

Barry Segal, founder of the Focus Autism Foundation and former entrepreneur whose company sales peaked near $2 billion said, "We are in the process of exposing what may be the biggest federal scandal ever with immense damage to our economy and our people, especially our children who are the future of our country. Their health has been compromised by mercury in vaccines. We need Congress to take action now. Thimerosal must be banned."

A more effective vaccine preservative "2PE" has replaced thimerosal in many other vaccines and possesses a much better safety profile according to Dr. Hooker.

And yet, from your own site:
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2014/247218/

The reported results showed that “the relative risk (RR) of developing a neurologic development disorder was 1.8 (95% confidence intervals [CI] 1.1–2.8) when comparing the highest exposure group at 1 month of age (cumulative dose > 25 μg) to the unexposed group.” Similarly, they “also found an elevated risk for the following disorders: autism (RR 7.6, 95% CI = 1.8–31.5), nonorganic sleep disorders (RR 5.0, 95% CI = 1.6–15.9), and speech disorders (RR 2.1, 95% CI = 1.1–4.0)” in the highest exposure group.

So, they are saying that amounts in excess of 25 micrograms of Thimerosal increases the risk 1.8 times.

Interesting to note... considering:

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/thimerosal.htm
Is thimerosal being used in other vaccines?
Since 2001, no new vaccine licensed by FDA for use in children has contained thimerosal as a preservative, and all vaccines routinely recommended by CDC for children younger than 6 years of age have been thimerosal-free, or contain only trace amounts of thimerosal, except for some formulations of influenza vaccine.

So... modern vaccines that DO have Thimerosalcontain one microgram or less, considering the FDA considers "trace amounts" to be "1 microgram or less per dose"
http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/SafetyAvailability/VaccineSafety/UCM096228
Thimerosal has been removed from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine (see Table 1). A preservative-free version of the inactivated influenza vaccine (contains trace amounts of thimerosal) is available in limited supply at this time for use in infants, children and pregnant women. Some vaccines such as Td, which is indicated for older children (≥ 7 years of age) and adults, are also now available in formulations that are free of thimerosal or contain only trace amounts. Vaccines with trace amounts of thimerosal contain 1 microgram or less of mercury per dose.

So... then... what's the problem here?

I have repeated this many times. Thimerasol is still used in multidose vaccines, and in other countries. So yes, it is still being used, and in quantities exceeding 25 micrograms.

"It is a common myth today that the vaccines administered to children no longer contain the toxic additive thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative linked to causing permanent neurological damage. But a recent federal case involving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revealed that, contrary to this widely-held belief, thimerosal is actually still present in many batch vaccines, including in the annual influenza vaccine that is now administered to children as young as six months old.

Filed by a citizen-backed coalition advocating vaccine safety, the lawsuit against the FDA alleged that the agency's continued endorsement and approval of thimerosal as a vaccine additive is a serious public health threat, especially since safer alternatives already exist and are widely used voluntarily by many vaccine manufacturers. But Judge Brett Kavanaugh, siding with antiquated pseudoscience, decided that thimerosal is not a health threat, and that those who wish to avoid it can simply choose thimerosal-free alternatives.

Ignoring the evidence of thimerosal's dangers brought before him on behalf of the millions of children across the country who continue to be injected with this mercury-based additive, Judge Kavanaugh declared that the plaintiffs, which include groups like the Coalition for Mercury-Free Drugs (CMFD), did not have proper standing to file the lawsuit. And in the process, both he and the FDA inadvertently admitted that thimerosal is still present in many childhood vaccines, which counters popular claims to the contrary.

FDA admits on its website that thimerosal is still in vaccines
The fact that Judge Kavanaugh refused to hear the case is tragic in and of itself, as thimerosal, which is composed of 50 percent mercury, has been proven to cause serious health damage. But what may be even worse is the fact that many people falsely believe that thimerosal is not even included in vaccines anymore, which is leading them to blindly allow them to be administered to their children. And the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the FDA have continued to provide dubious and misleading information on the subject, which the mainstream media has been complicit in spreading over the years.

But the FDA explains, in no uncertain terms, directly on its website that thimerosal is still added to certain vaccines. For this reason alone, it is crucial that parents who choose to vaccinate their children ask for an ingredients list for each and every vaccine before allowing them to be administered to their children.

"While the use of mercury-containing preservatives has declined in recent years with the development of new products formulated with alternative or no preservatives, thimerosal has been used in some immune globulin preparations, anti-venins, skin test antigens, and ophthalmic and nasal products, in addition to certain vaccines," writes the FDA on its Thimerosal in Vaccines page (http://www.fda.gov)."

Okay... so you want the US to go play "world police" on vaccinations now?
Oh... but wait, we dont' CARE about global issues, because you keep pulling facts based on US statistics (such as the measles trend in the US, deaths in the US, etc)

Pick your scope - are we going to go worldwide, nationwide, or what...

http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/SafetyAvailability/VaccineSafety/UCM096228#t1

I see a grand total of seven vaccines with 25 micrograms of mercury... and half of those are for the flu...

You don't care about kids outside the U.S? I do. It would only take statements by WHO to get the facts out to other countries about the dangers of Thimerasol. It would be expensive, but vaccine manufacturers in other countries MIGHT switch over if pressured enough. Are you against that?

Pick your scope - are we going to go worldwide, nationwide, or what..

Your the one complaining how antivaxxers are causing measles deaths and then jumping to third world countries to prove it. You've been exposed for this tactic twice now.

Absolute rubbish and blatant fear-mongering. From the sources cited for that paper:

http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/03/23/44979.htm

(CN) - The Food and Drug Administration is not liable for approving a mercury-based vaccine preservative because more expensive, mercury-free vaccines are available upon request, a federal judge ruled.
Thimerosal is a mercury-based compound that is FDA-approved as a vaccine preservative. Organizations such as the Coalition for Mercury-Free Drugs, however, have expressed concern about the preservative.
As a precautionary measure, most vaccines administered to children or pregnant women do not include thimersosal, but the flu vaccine is a significant exception. "Thimerosal-preserved flu vaccines are necessary to ensure sufficient supply at a reasonable price," according to the judgment.
In August 2007, the coalition submitted a citizen petition to the FDA, asking the agency to ban the use of thimerosal in all vaccines for young children and pregnant women. When the FDA denied its petition, the coalition filed a federal complaint, alleging the FDA violated its duty to ensure the safety of vaccines.
A federal judge in Washington dismissed the complaint, finding that the coalition lacked standing to bring its claim.
Last week, the D.C. Circuit affirmed.
"We recognize plaintiffs' genuine concern about thimerosal-preserved vaccines," Judge Brett Kavanaugh wrote for a three-judge panel. "But plaintiffs are not required to receive thimerosal-preserved vaccines; they can readily obtain thimerosal-free vaccines. They do not have standing to challenge FDA's decision to allow other people to receive thimerosal-preserved vaccines." (Emphasis in original.)
"Plaintiffs may, of course, advocate that the legislative and executive branches ban all thimerosal-preserved vaccines," Kavanaugh added. "But because plaintiffs are suffering no cognizable injury as a result of FDA's decision to allow thimerosal-preserved vaccines, their lawsuit is not a proper subject for the judiciary."
"In light of plaintiffs' avowed intention to refuse thimerosal-preserved vaccines, plaintiffs cannot show that they face a 'certainly impending,' or even likely, risk of future physical injury from thimerosal in vaccines," the decision states.
"To be sure, plaintiffs point out that vaccination is often compulsory for children whose parents seek to enroll them in public schools. But thimerosal-free versions of required vaccines are available, as plaintiffs have conceded, so parents concerned about the effects of thimerosal can obtain thimerosal-free vaccines for their school-age children."
Furthermore, "rven if vaccine providers generally charge a higher price for thimerosal-free vaccines, the mere existence of a price differential would not establish that thimerosal-free vaccines are not readily available at a reasonable price. The price might be higher for the simple reason that things packaged individually (like thimerosal-free vaccines, which are packaged in single doses) generally cost more than the same things packaged in bulk (like thimerosal-preserved vaccines, which are packaged in multi-dose vials)," Kavanaugh concluded.

They fully acknowledge that there is no actionable case here.

This is a part of my above listing - again, the bulk of the vaccines with mercury are the FLU vaccine.

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/children.htm

I see no mention here of Thimerosal at all, so whatever "facts" they pulled from here are probably based around the dosage of influenza vaccination

Aha... ahahahaha!

You care about kids in other countries? Fine... stop buying products manufactured by, or with, materials from Chinese child-labor shops, and get those factories shut down. That'll do FAR more to protect children in other countries than any anti-vaccination movement.

Who are all these innocent bystanders who are dying of measles? This is a typical scare tactic used to manipulate the public into demonizing the unvaccinated.

Total number of deaths due to measles in the U.S. from 2004-2015? ZERO!

YOU are the one bringing up the "oh, it isn't happening in the US" bit...

So you whine about antivaxxers causing death from measles in the U.S., but have to go to Africa and third world countries to find all these deaths. What, the antivaxxers are causing these deaths too? What a joke..

Repeatedly...

Like I said, nobody in the U.S. has died of measles since 2004. So no, this is not a deadly outbreak threatening civilization. In a month or so all those people who got the measles will be naturally immunized from it. They will stay at home, drink plenty of fluids, and get well again. Nobody will die and the world will move on as it always has. Like when we had our "deadly" ebola outbreak of like 3 people a few months ago. lol! People nowadays think any appearance of a disease is a deadly epidemic. It isn't.

So you admit there's still Thimerasol in vaccines in the U.S. Thanks.

Show me any place where I said that NONE of the Vaccines in the US contain Thimerasol...

Oh, right, you cannot, because I did not.

The point still stands that fully HALF of the vaccinations that do contain Thimerasol are for Influenza... which an infant under the age of 6 months should not be getting anyway.

Measles death AREN'T happening in the U.S. Thimerasol vaccines ARE. See the difference?

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Your argument, in a nutshell:

Because some people are allergic to peanuts, I am not going to eat fish.

Thimerasol isn't IN the Measles vaccination in the US...

Was thimerosal used in all childhood vaccines?
  • No. Some other vaccines, including the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR), do not and did not ever contain thimerosal or any preservative. Varicella (chickenpox), inactivated polio (IPV), and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have also never contained thimerosal.
  • There is no thimerosal used in the vaccines on the childhood immunization schedule. Read more about each of these vaccines:
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/Concerns/thimerosal/thimerosal_faqs.html

I never said it was. I said it was in some vaccines and we need to get rid of it. For instance, when pregnant mothers get their flu vaccines, that mercury goes straight into the fetus.

So when it comes to Measles, you are arguing Ignoratio elenchi... got it.

So then, the simple solution, is that a mother who is pregnant shouldn't GET a Thimerasol containing influenza vaccination...

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/thimerosal.htm

Do the 2014-2015 seasonal flu vaccines contain thimerosal?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several formulations of the seasonal flu vaccine, including multi-dose vials and single-dose units. (See Table of Approved Influenza Vaccines for the U.S. 2014–2015 Season.) Since seasonal influenza vaccine is produced in large quantities for annual vaccination campaigns, some of the vaccine is produced in multi-dose vials, and contains thimerosal to safeguard against possible contamination of the vial once it is opened.

The single-dose units are made without thimerosal as a preservative because they are intended to be opened and used only once. Additionally, the live-attenuated version of the vaccine (the nasal spray vaccine), is produced in single-dose units and does not contain thimerosal.

Problem solved!

Since seasonal influenza vaccine is produced in large quantities for annual vaccination campaigns, some of the vaccine is produced in multi-dose vials, and contains thimerosal to safeguard against possible contamination of the vial once it is opened.

Thanks for confirming that. Now watch this:

And let's not forget all those thimerasol vaccines in other countries. All the kids I'M not supposed to care about.

You really are a piece of work...

I merely stated the obvious fact that antivaxxers aren't causing measles deaths in third world countries. Does such even need to be said? Apparently here it does.
