US disrupts Iran terror plot

No, but it does contradict the myth I've heard on these forums that Iran just keeps to itself.

from the link said:
Mr Holder said the alleged plot was a "flagrant violation of US and international law" that had been "conceived, sponsored and directed by Iran".

That should read:

Mr Holder said the alleged plot was allegedly a "flagrant violation of alleged US and international law" that had allegedly been "conceived, sponsored and directed allegedly by Iran".

So, are there any [alleged] WMDs [allegedly] in Iran?

Glen Grenwald has me roflmao at his "analysis" of the Iranian "threat"

The ironies here are so self-evident it’s hard to work up the energy to point them out. Outside of Pentagon reporters, Washington Post Editorial Page Editors, and Brookings “scholars,” is there a person on the planet anywhere who can listen with a straight face as drone-addicted U.S. Government officials righteously condemn the evil, illegal act of entering another country to commit an assassination? Does anyone, for instance, have any interest in finding out who is responsible for the spate of serial murders aimed at Iran’s nuclear scientists? Wouldn’t people professing to be so outraged by the idea of entering another country to engage in assassination be eager to get to the bottom of that?

Then there’s the War on Terror irony: our Hated Enemy here (Iran) is a country which had absolutely nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Meanwhile, our close ally, the victim on whose behalf we are so outraged (Saudi Arabia), is not only one of the most tyrannical and aggressive regimes on the planet, but produced 15 of the 19 hijackers and had extensive and still-unknown involvement in that attack. If the U.S. is so deeply offended by the involvement of a foreign government in an attack on U.S. soil, it would be looking first to its close friend Saudi Arabia, where “elements of the government” were likely involved in an actual plot rather than a joke of a plot.

To make sure you understand just how dastardly and evil the Iranian plotters here are, the DOJ in its complaint highlighted that the used-car-salesman-Terrorist-Mastermind said that he preferred that nobody else be killed when the Saudi Ambassador was assassinated, but if it were absolutely necessary, he could accept some unintended deaths! Here’s how the NYT summarizes that:

The complaint quotes Mr. Arbabsiar as making conflicting statements about the possibility of bystander deaths; at one point he is said to say that killing the ambassador alone would be preferable, but on another occasion he said it would be “no big deal” if many others at the restaurant — possibly including United States senators — died in any bombing.

What kind of monster thinks that way, we are supposed to ponder. Behold the warped mind of the Terrorist! He’s actually willing to accept that others die besides his intended targeted! Is that not the mentality that drives U.S. behavior in multiple countries around the world every day? The U.S. flattened an entire civilian apartment building in Baghdad with a 2,000-pound bomb when it thought Saddam Hussein was there (he wasn’t — oops — but lots of innocent people were). NATO repeatedly bombed structures in Tripoli where it thought (mistakenly) Moammar Gadaffi was located, in the process almost certainly killing large numbers of unintended targets. The U.S. just killed one of its own citizens that it insists (not very credibly) it did not intend to kill in order to eradicate the life of Anwar Awlaki, and killed dozens of innocent people when it previously tried to kill Awlaki with cluster bombs.

Seriously, do people STILL fall for this crap?

CNN Video/Guardian UK: Iran Assassination Plot “Not Credible”

It appears unlikely that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would approve such a brazen plot. Photograph: AFP/Getty Image

The alleged plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to the US does not fit with what is known about the supposed perpetrators.

The money may have come from Mossad, and the “assassination plot”was not a plot to assassinate anyone, but simply a $100,000 venture to “frame” Iran for an assassination plot plan.

Who benefits? Who had the connections, the ability and the opportunity? Who had $100,000 bucks they could afford to throw away? There is no need to be a conspiracy theorist, it is all so transparent!

. . . just a thought. :scratchin:

Being that this man was Saudi headed to the U.S Iran must have wanted him dead for a very good reason so this meeting couldn't take place, war is imminent.

Criminal charges were brought in the southern district of New York because the alleged $100,000 downpayment was wired through a bank in the area, officials said.
Fool. What, they never heard of the Patriot act? Most people these days know you can't deal in that kind of loot and not attract attention. Even through your PC. Of course the government would know. Hell, your friends on Facebook could probably find out these days. They expect us to believe international spies would just "wire" 100k through American banks. Yeah, that's how unsuffisticated them thar brown people is.

People actually read this article and believe it, right?

War is only "imminent" if Americans continue to swallow this bullshit and keep letting our country be jerked around. Once we figure out who the real "baddies" are, I'm sure we can cease with all this stupid war.

No, but it does contradict the myth I've heard on these forums that Iran just keeps to itself.

You just can't wait to lick the government propaganda, can you? What's it taste like?

My local newspaper had a rather large, prominent picture of Eric Holder on the front page, putting him and Clinton in a rather heroic light.

What other story has been unfolding for months and is now coming to a frothing boil???
Hint: just as with this story, it involves drug cartels.
Bonus hint: it involves Attorney General Holder.

Thanks to WRH...
Officials said that the Saudi ambassador, Al-Jubeir, who is close to King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz and has been in his post since 2007, was never in danger. President Barack Obama was briefed in June about the alleged plot and through a spokesman expressed gratitude for it being disrupted.

The assassination plot began to unfold in May 2011 when Arbabsiar approached an individual in Mexico to help, but that individual turned out to be an informant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Old plot.
Thank God that Cartel henchman was miraculously a DEA agent!

It is pretty obvious this story is circulating (resuscitated, even), in part, to help distract from that other story.

Yeah thats my favourite part of the plot. Take one used car salesman with monetary problems, send him one FBI undercover agent with money to fund a terrorist plot in the US and "save" the day by "uncovering" the plot. Doh!

To begin with, this episode continues the FBI’s record-setting undefeated streak of heroically saving us from the plots they enable. From all appearances, this is, at best, yet another spectacular “plot” hatched by some hapless loser with delusions of grandeur but without any means to put it into action except with the able assistance of the FBI, which yet again provided it through its own (paid, criminal) sources posing as Terrorist enablers. The Terrorist Mastermind at the center of the plot is a failed used car salesman in Texas with a history of pedestrian money problems. Dive under your bed. “For the entire operation, the government’s confidential sources were monitored and guided by federal law enforcement agents,” explained U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, and “no explosives were actually ever placed anywhere and no one was actually ever in any danger.’”

Meanwhile:

: On Good Morning America this morning, Joe Biden warned that “the Iranians are going to have to be held accountable” and “nothing has been taken off the table,” and then promised: “And when you see the case presented you will find there is compelling evidence for the assertion being made.” Except — after 24 hours of media hysteria — there’s this Reuters article, which — under the headline “Officials concede gaps in U.S. knowledge of Iran plot” — reports:

Iran’s supreme leader and the shadowy Quds Force covert operations unit were likely aware of an alleged plot to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, but hard evidence of that is scant, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

The United States does not have solid information about “exactly how high it goes,” one official said. . . .The U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said their confidence that at least some Iranian leaders were aware of the alleged plot was based largely on analyses and their understanding of how the Quds Force operates.

I wouldn’t exactly call that — what was the phrase Biden used? — “compelling evidence for the assertions being made.”

Was there an FBI agent/informant involved? I've only seen references to DEA, although I have not read all the details of the case. It would make sense, though, since, as you quoted:

Not only do the FBI seem to anywhere the would-be terrorists need them to be, but are always on hand to supply money, fake explosives, and the power to arrest them.

The Antonio Martinez case is almost more laughable.. young Hispanic, probably Catholic, gets despondent about life and religion, and somehow decides a conversion to Islam is what the doctor ordered. Soon, after taking a Muslim wife (maybe she convinced him to convert? unsure of the sequence) he decides he needs to engage in "Jihad" against America. His wife is supportive. His mother (presumably also a Catholic) doesn't try to talk him out of it, oddly.
Meanwhile, he is in constant contact with terrorist masterminds in Pakistan (FBI? CIA? ISI?) while all the time monitored by FBI. He meets up with them, they aid him, give him the fake bomb, and send him to blow up an Army recruitment center.

That's what I recall from first reading it last year, a week or two after the Christmas tree "bomber" and I distinctly remember thinking "This sounds like such a hokey story."

In other news....

8 killed in Southern California salon shooting

SEAL BEACH, Calif. — A gunman burst into a beauty salon in this sunny Pacific Coast town Wednesday, killing eight people and severely injuring one other person in a rampage that sent patrons and workers diving to the floor and running out of the building for safety.

The attacker, reportedly loaded down with weapons, left the salon and jumped into a vehicle in a parking lot after the attack. He drove a half-mile before being stopped by the Seal Beach police and surrendered without incident.

Police officials said the suspect — who wasn't immediately identified — told officers that he had more guns inside his white pickup.

Seal Beach Police Department Sgt. Steve Bowles said the police were confident the gunman had acted alone and suspected that he was known by people in the salon.

Ah! A successful terrorist attack! Who do we bomb?

Mr. President, We Believe Holder Lied on Iran Terror

Now, as for this Iran thing, consider yourself “busted.”

Why Does Netanyahu Look So Happy?
cia_mossad-320x273.jpg

You and Biden, Holder, the phony FBI, all caught running errands for the Mossad. The reason I suspect is blackmail or coercion of some kind.

No secret there for anyone who understands American politics. You don’t trust the American people, you consider them hopelessly stupid after decades of Fox News.

If you, yourself, aren’t a total moron, just the failure of Americans to rise up over 9/11, an obvious “false flag” is reason enough to keep lying to the people.

If your rationale is that they don’t deserve better, that they “can’t handle the truth,” you may be right.

We also noted your support of the Occupy Wall Street movement. We aren’t blind. We want to give you a second chance.

Here are a couple of my suggestions:

1. End the CIA/Mossad operation against the Egyptian people. They fought for a democratic government and now we are helping Israel keep the corrupt Egyptian Army, Mubarak’s thugs, in charge. It will blow up in your face, this is a tragic failure. A note for those who saw NATO plots in Libya: You have a very real one going in Egypt but so many of you are silent? Is that because the Israeli/Gaddafi money paying your bills for Libya allows you to overlook something a thousand times more obvious in Egypt? Consider yourselves “busted.”

2. Announce a federally based inquiry into “inconsistencies” involving Building 7 at the World Trade Center. After the election, you can use the easily proven missile attack on the Pentagon to jail many of your political opponents. You have dozens of videos showing the incident. It will help you “clean house” and give America a real chance.

3. Immediately purge the military of private contractors and groups operating outside official chain of command. This is your constitutional responsibility.

4. Announce a “blue ribbon panel” to investigate ways to “restructure” our relationship with the Federal Reserve. These same banks took down the EU and, as you very well know, are ready to take another shot at America. The GOP has introduced legislation to deregulate “securities” to enable another “pump and dump” as you are more than aware. It’s time you laid out the truth for the American people. We hear some of it, the occasional gem of truth along with the Bush era mythology. It isn’t enough.

It has become increasingly obvious that Holder and Napolitano were going to be liabilities.

Allowing them, and those behind them, to send us into another war that I guarantee you would be one we will lose like we have now so many times, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, the War on Poverty, we can’t take another one.

Just read this on a message board:

Butler, “Old Gimlet Eye “ 1881-1940, was a Major General in the U.S. Marine Corps and, at the time of his death, the most decorated Marine in U.S. history. He was awarded numerous medals for heroism including the Marine Corps Brevet Medal also the Medal of Honor twice.

He wrote War Is a Racket then later in an magazine article.

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.

I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested.

Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

Can you say, glass houses?

And here:

Sanctions Cost Iran $14 Billion a Year in Lost Oil Revenue

Except they didn't just wire 100k through American Banks.

They used Foreign banks.

They just weren't aware of how the international payment system actually works and were apparently unaware that the Foreign banks used the NY banks to make the actual transfer.
