In this world of fast growing technology,people who are respected or want to respected must have two things:

1)A BRAND NAME.

2)MONEY.

Depends who you want respect from.

I always managed to get the respect and friendship of people without being a conformer.
 
Its sadly true

Mum stayed home to look after us and when she went to her high school reunion all the other women looked down on her. Stupid people.
 
Depends on what's important to you. What you set as your values.

I'm not to big on what brand name or who thinks what because of what you do or do not have. If it takes say a 6 figure income to belong or some such I could care less about the crowd. Sooner or later they find their values are skewed usually when they need help the worse.


As for the people that looked down on your mother. Asguard, you couldn't be luckier. She chose what was important. Enough said...
