The Gettysburg Address: 286 words.

The Declaration of Independence: 1,300 words.

The US Government regulations on the sale of cabbage: 26,911 words.
 
You could probably divide or multiply the number of words for each of those thoughts by two, if you were to express them in some other language. Half of them weren't written in english to begin with.
