The reason for the decline in forum membership - anyone?

Do you remember my point?

Do you? You said I instigated the exchange, and I gave you proof that I did not. I know facts tend to throw you off-message, but that's not my problem.

Whatever. I am not discussing this any longer. You've spammed QQ's post enough with your rudeness.

Called it!

Me said:
You really want to get into it? You guys are the problem. People like Quantum Quack, who post absolute nonsense relentlessly in spite of any arguments made against their inane points, or like R1D2, who can't even form coherent sentences and care nothing for spelling or grammar and hide from superior arguments by accusing the other of "rudeness."

That's the thing about forum trolls: you guys all operate from the same handbook. You're predictable, and totally boring.

So balerion do you wish this.thread locked? Is that it?

No, not at all. I just feel like someone needs to drop in from time to time and remind you guys that you are the problem. It's hard enough with every website having huge comments sections or forums of their own, to say nothing of the impact social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have had, but it's made nearly impossible to retain membership when guys like Reiku and Gustav and Chipz and you and others are allowed to roam almost completely unchecked. There seems to be no standard for discussion here. Every potentially interesting discussion gets derailed by people who either bail or curl up in a ball. You don't concede points, when you're defeated you just restate your position more firmly, and then start threads like this when people throw their hands up in disgust. You. Are. The problem.

I think he'd rather see us all banned.... or to simply... F-off.

ps. F-off is a perfectly fine choice of terminology and according to JamesR, is not exactly a bannable offense.

Context. Remember JamesR clearly stated that it was a matter of context.

In this reply, you are not directing the term toward a person, merely discussing it in operational terms. :bugeye:

You baited him, plain and simple. He was challenging you on your take of neverfly's post. He wasn't being as degrading as you where. You where the one starting off with troll-insults regardless of whose take on neverfly's post was accurate.

Wrong again, Reiku. He called me deluded and said that I was making myself the center of attention without warrant, inferring that this was the motive behind my post. He was baiting me. But I didn't bite. Calling him a troll is a statement of fact, and not against the rules.

We got over 114 members and countless guests viewing this thread and you say Iam the probl ....hmmm
.

I'm sure it is, but it's members are not privately owned, nor are the largest part of its members part of a privately owned company, which was my point. I will say it again, this forum is open to the public for people to join, you must expect the odd nutcase now and again.

And he still manages to miss the point - it is open to the public at the discretion of the moderators and the site admin. You have no rights, only priveleges and only those priveleges that the site admin and moderator choose to give you. It may be open to the public, but it is not a public forum.

One reason for the decline in membership at this forum might be the caliber of dialogue on this thread, just as a random example.

On that note, gentlemen, I bid you adieu.

That's a very interesting analysis, considering a great deal more people here seem to agree,

That's not fair, since you account for at least seven of them.

that sciforums has lost a certain pleasant odour to it, when there is incessive rudeness, challenges to see who can piss up a wall the highest, to squabbling members arguing who is right or wrong (I have been guilty of this one I must admit), to threads which are unduly closed to even threads where censorship has occurred, to a complete silencing of members because their opinion is not held in the highest of regards.

I've been here since 2003, and there has been an element of that the entire time. The one thing that has always been true is that Sciforums has always been more lenient in their moderating than most other places of comparable size. If you've been banned, you did something to deserve it. And even if you didn't agree with the reason, you were almost certainly given ample warning that such behavior would not be tolerated. You, for example, have been perma-banned on two different occasions, and temporarily banned on many more, so when this sock-puppet of yours suffers a similar fate, you won't have any excuse to complain about it. (Nor any need, as you'll simply create a bunch of new handles until they finally stop paying attention--don't think I haven't noticed that earlier socks have been deleted as "Sockpuppet of Reiku")

And there is no censorship going on, either. Posts aren't usually deleted, and only ones that are utter meaningless garbage get demoted to the Cesspool. And what a surprise that the biggest posters of absolutely meaningless garbage--you, Quantum Quack, and arauca are the three guys with the most posts in this thread.

You know what I see as the problem, people like you, who is actually stopping the development of this thread and the development of a much more prosperous, peaceful and mutually advantageous future sciforums, all because you are the selfish one here, who doesn't want the rules to be applied where people have to talk civilly or cater to the needs of individuals respectfully and equally.

Yeah, right. What you really want is to prevent people from telling you that you're just making it up as you go along--or stealing it from other posters, which you have been busted for multiple times, including under your new handle. You don't equality, you want to be treated as an equal without having to do the work. You want your gibberish to be treated as having just as much merit as actual math done by people who really know what they're doing. That's what you're looking for, and what you want is to stop people from getting in your way.

You'd rather sit around in this depressing lump of a site

Says the guy who has created dozens of sock-puppets just so he could get around a ban from this depressing lump of a site?

because you prefer to play your own game of trolling threads, the threads you think you are outside of being judged for spamming and trolling. For some reason, this excites you. Gives you a thrill. I bet most of your posts are actually derogatory against other members here, not really directed at actually discussing the threads. I'd like to see how close to the truth this actually is.

I'm telling the truth about posters like you. If you don't like hearing about yourself, don't read my posts. Or better yet, go away.

Sure, the place is open at the discretion of the mods and the site admin. We only have the right to discuss if it is allowed and we have priveleges because you choose to give em. How is this any different to a well-moderated public forum?

I need to ask.

Because it's not neccessarily open to all expression that is protected under the first ammendment. It has more in common with a Jail, school, or military base which are examples of non-public forums in that those topics that are available for discussion are decided by those in authority, and are, to varying degrees moderated.

The simple fact of the matter is this forum is privately owned, posting in this forum is at the discretion of the moderators and site admin on topics deemed suitable by the moderators and site admin.

Compare this to a true public forum - for example, a park, or a sidewalk where you can (hypotehticaly at least) talk about whatever you want.

If this website were a true public forum, it would be unmoderated and not require user registration.

The. Truth of course

You mean the entirety of my argument? I mean, you know what you do here. Unless you're completely deluded, you know full well that you debate dishonestly and that your posts are absolute nonsense. I assume that the feigning of expertise is what makes this whole exercise enjoyable for you, that you like to pretend those who disagree with you simply aren't as intelligent or progressive as you are. What else drives someone who posts like that? Look at Reiku with his open plagiarism. He must know that people are going to catch on, yet he does it anyway. Same goes for his inane physics posts, which aren't much beyond grade-school level, according to the resident physicists.

In other words, you shouldn't have to rely on me to tell you that, you should already know.
