It is early to merge after all the press about segregation but I don't think the race issue is over yet by a longshot. I predict race based flareups. Already it appears the sacking of the lazy, fat Hispanic guy was a mistake since another Hispanic was voted out last night. Could they be eliminating them one by one? I sure hope Ozzy is secure! :eek: The heavy metal guy annoyed me until the exchange with Candace and her friend at the end of the challenge. He's an 8 year old mentally! I heard in a CBS morning show interview the next day that he said he was embarrassed and explained the isolation gets to you more than most people realize. I am greatly disturbed by the preview of next week's show re: Cowboy and the nest. It already is bothering me.
 
Ozzy signed his own death warrent when he threw that challenge. One should never diminish one's own numbers! Survivor is a numbers game! Don't these people ever watch the show? It almost makes me want to go on, seeing the stupid things people do. But with my luck, I'd be the first one voted off before I had a chance to use the knowledge I've gained watching all these seasons.

Regarding the early merge, I really think they chickened out. The black team was doing quite poorly. They lost the first challange and should have lost the second. If they were completely eliminated, Jessie Jackson would be picketing in front of Jeff Prohst's house!

Yup, I agree throwing challenges on Survivor is a bad move. It's backfired on teams in the past in more than one way. Now the Hispanics are targets! I just can't bear the thought of Ozzy being voted out! I'll be forced to go to JP for eye candy.

You may be right that the show chickened out after the Black team got a poor start. But I still think the race issue will pop up again.
 
So JP is out. I won't miss him. His arrogant attitude and immaturity wore thin quick. I hate to see the Hispanics picked off like this but he was my least favorite, though nice to look at.

I was so relieved when the bird nest scene ended happily. The preview of Cowboy stabbing at a big nest and a helpless Boobie chick was laying in Alan Alda's hand gave me a bad feeling. (That older guy sounds EXACTLY like Alan Alda.) Fortunately it was alive and placed back in it's nest with it's mother.

Amazing watching young Ozzy run across water in the challenge while JP slowly swam! That boy has some engines! :eek:

Parvati (the slut) is pretty except for that big oversized, gummy smile. Keep your teeth in your head girl. You ain't at the dentist.

I like the older Black woman.

Ozzy should fish naked. :cool:

My wife said the exact same thing about that guy sounding like Alan Alda. Ozzy's performance was impressive. With the fishing and his performance at the chalanges, his stock just went way up. And
Parvati (the slut) is hot. It was stupid of her to side with the women on the vote. She would clearly do much better with a bunch of men as allies. She could easily manipulate them, and they'd hate to vote her out because, well, she's hot.

In my opinion JP's tribe is now the "Loser Tribe". They've just voted out one of their strongest members. As they get weaker and weaker the chick alliance will vote out more and more men until the merge. After that, they'll be picked off one by one since their numbers will be so low.

I hoped Parvati wouldn't snitch to the guys and vote out Stephannie (the older Black woman) and hoped she would vote against the guys but now I see your point. Girls seem to go after eachother much more brutally than men ususlly do and you're right, she would be safer among the guys. Yeah, JP's tribe has loser Adam and the Black guy. Neither of them seem to be effective leaders imo. Glad you noted the awesomeness of Ozzy! If I were him though I'd have to massage myself----I mean I would tone down my awesomeness a bit. Less fishing, standing back a bit more. Survivor does not reward a good work ethic and stamina. Your wife is sooo right! The older guy sounds identical to Alda.

You're right, it's dangerous to be too good. But being good at fishing has been a successful strategy since Gay Rich in the first survivor. People like to eat and they see the extra protein they get from the fish as improving their chances of winning chalanges by improving their stamina.
 
The loser tribe loses again! This week they voted out who they should have voted out last week. That, at least, was a good move. But is it too late?

All is well. I knew peeking at this thread on a Thursday before the show was 1st Degree Cheating.
Not such a good idea for the 3 Aitu members to go to the enemy team camp. Not just because of Cowboy's annoying narcissism and endless blather but because the lazy 4 at camp Aitu will likely use that visit against them, including Amazing Ozzy!:eek: If I were with them and we stumbled onto their camp I would have shushed everyone and retreated. It can't be kept a secret because the other team will surely bring it up. A merge is of utmost importance now for the 3 strongest Aitu members.
I hated seeing Steph go. She was a nice lady. Guess her head or heart wasn't into it. Older women are always targets on Survivor. It's unfair. Only one older woman won the show, Australia. I guess the Black woman that won Marquesas was also a bit older.
The final challenge would have been very unpleasant. Imagine how badly they all must smell!:bugeye:
I wanna see lazy young women go. Candice is worthless as is Sundra.

Cowboy was actually pretty impressive in his strategy. Of course, he didn't realize that one of his "allies" actually had the immunity idol and that fact would have been revealed by Cowboys ploy. So the guy with the idol had no choice but to turn on Cowboy.

I have a couple old VCR's in the basement, but I never use them. I love TIVO. I rarely watch anything live anymore. When I do, I'm always wanting to fast forward thru the commercials.
 
Can someone explain to me why dvrs (or pvrs) are better than dvd-rs with hard drives?
I was trying to research pvrs and found that 1000 nerds agreed pvrs are better than dvd-rs, but I can't understand why?
I saw a panasonic dvd-r with a 160 gig hard drive for $480 and a topfield pvr right next to it with 80 gig hard drive for $550.
I can't make sense of that, I'd love to have 160 gigs and the ability to put things onto a dvd so I can keep them and free up hd space for quality programs to come, but it makes me nervous that the dvd-r is cheaper?
Why would it be? Aren't they the same except the dvd-r records dvds and has an extra 80 gbs? I think they were both twin tuning and whatever else, as far as I can tell I want the panasonic, but I just wish it was more expensive to put me at ease. Help!

On topic - when that fat mexican said he was in love with that white chick and that they had a moment (where she sympathetically said "awww we love you" and he stalker faced "I love you too" back at her) it was seriously one of the greatest moments in TV history.
Almost rivalling when the exotic delicacy of "canine feces" was put in front of joe schmoe.

Sorry if you've already talked about the fat mexican, I can't read this thread properly because I'm sure it has spoilers. We're behind down under.

I think you're talking apples and oranges here.
A dvr is a digital video recorder? Dvr format is a type of video format which is becoming (or has become) the standard in most video editing applications. Digital camcorders record to dvr format.

A dvd-r is just a dvd drive.

Why is dvr more expensive?
I would assume that it is a video processing card. Video processing is a heavy duty task, and a good video processing card is therefore expensive.

Your best bet would be to get a dvr card for processing of the video data being input into your machine. And a dvd-r drive to record it to dvd format.

It gets a bit more complicated than that if you actually want to record it DVD format which will play in your DVD player like a rented DVD. There are products out there that do this, but the simple (and cheap) ones don't produce very professional DVDs.
I like Sonic Scenarist (although it's now sold out to some other company, I forget which), but it costs several thousand dollars... Thank god for... Ahem...

DVDs don't use dvr format. They use mpeg. But, it's pretty easy to convert dvr to mpeg.

Almost forgot.
Screw Survivor.
 
I use TMPGEnc for video conversion, VirtualDub for audio extraction and DVDLab Pro for combining the two and adding the menus (whixh can be as numerous and fancy as you like). Perfect copies every time (assuming a perfect source).

But I think Lou's looking for a 1-button-no-fuss solution for direct TV-to-DVD recording.

So ignore all that.
