'Steroids 'kill off brain cells'

Using steroids to build bulging muscles can also trigger "catastrophic" loss of brain cells, research suggests.

The drugs are known to raise levels of the male sex hormone testosterone.

A study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry by Yale School of Medicine found high levels of the hormone killed off nerve cells.

The researchers believe the effect might explain why some steroid users become aggressive and suicidal - a condition known as hyperexcitability.

The condition is well known in the bodybuilding world, where it is referred to as roid rage.

"People think steroids are banned because they are performance enhancing, but the second, equally important, reason is that they are known to have a major negative effect on people's health.

Since Bush doesn't look buffed does this mean he is a coke snorter?

Cocaine kills brain's 'pleasure' cells

Scientists explain cocaine addicts' cravings

Repeated cocaine use damages, or even kills, the very brain cells that trigger the "high" users experience, scientists have found.

The drug damages key cells in the brain's pleasure centre.

Is this why this man has such a negative view on life. No pleasure left?

Anyway.

Absane. Stop using steroids.

Do you sort of wait for the scrotum to hang low, pull and hold the penis up, then delicatly place the testicles on a balance making sure they dont contact the base of the penis?

Nurse?

If someone wants to kill off their brains cells, aren't they FREE to do so? And if we take away that freedom, what else are we going to take away?

Hell, if we keep on takin' away our own rights, then we might as well surrender to the terrorists ....'cause that's exactly the way they want things.

If someone has killed off half his brain with cocaine should they be allowed to run for president? Especially since the other half was missing because of congenital defect.

Why do men (and women) take steroids?

Several reasons:

Steroids are lipids that function as hormones in the body.

Anabolic steroids are taken by athletes since they build muscle and improve bone strength.

Glucocorticoids are prescribed to people with severe pain such as those with severe muscle tears . They are anti-inflammatory and are useful in those with asthma or rheumatoid arthritis.

Sex steroids are taken by some for Hormone Replacement therapy or to improve sexual performance. (esp DHEA in men)

Some sex pro-hormones like DHEA are also prescribed as medications in some disorders.

It usually takes chronic abuse to see the adverse effects.

I guess y'all are saying that if something is harmful to us, then that product should be regulated by the government, and we shouldn't be allowed to harm ourselves?? Is that what y'all are saying and/or implying?

And if you are, isn't that the same thing that the government is doing now with their ideas of illegal, recreational drugs? So ...y'all agree that people shouldn't be allowed to use MJ or cocaine or heroin or ...whatever-the-fuck-the-new-high is these days?

Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs are also taken to reduce recovery time, so you can trade harder and longer.

Hey, I have an idea ....let's ban anything and everything that anyone and everyone can claim is bad for us! Great idea, huh? Hell, pretty soon, we'll all live to be 150 or so, perhaps longer if they get busy on the transplanting of body parts!

Bad for humans? Ban it!

Well first we need to ban all human interaction. After all, isn't this the root cause of all problems? We just cannot get along?
