Smoker haters

I have had enough of smokers who smoke around people, knowing good in well what they are doing they do it any way. i am a victim of Second hand smoke. i have a weak heart now and pass out if i stand up too quickly. And i have inflamation of the lungs thanx to my loving parents (ass holes) who smoke around me even though i would ask them not too, they figured if i didnt see them smoke it wouldnt hurt me any (thats what happens when you drop out of school and get a GED aka Good Enough Diploma). they screwed me over in my chances of going to State in highschool Wrestling. i have no problem with the people who smoke on their own out side away from other people so they are sure that they are the only people they are slowly killing. but to all of those with toddlers and kids who do not know any better and you are still going to smoke around them, i hope you die a horrible death for what you are putting those poor children through.

You know whats worse than a smoker? Someone who constantly complains about them. My father was a smoker for 30 some years and would complain about people who didn't like people smoking, he quit and now complains about everyone that smokes. If you don't like smokers don't go around them. In the US there aren't too many places that allow it anymore anyway. Most smokers will respect someone that tells them politely that they would rather they not smoke around them.

Can you get second hand smoke from Marijuana? And if so, do the effects compare to that of Ciggarettes?

second hand smoke from the g:m::m:d stuff is less harmful than from cigarettes, the reason being that cigarettes filter 6/7ths of the smoke the smaker inhales, so they smoke longer while putting lots of fumes out, while weeders use no filter as that would just restrict the amount of :D you got out of it, therefore they smoke less. and besides usually a joint is passed around, its not common to go outside and find people blowing happy smoke in your face

I dont smoke , and i dislike people who preach, that smoking is evil.
there are millions of ways to die, I met a woman who condemned a person for smoking, and she drove a 4x4, to and from the school, what a frigging hypocrite.
it all depends on your metabolism, my mum smoked from the age of 13 - 88.
there is no evidence that passive smoking harms anyone, alright the smell is obnoxious, and being in a smokey room can make you cough. but your body gets used to most of the nasties of life, but to be to clinical clean will cause more harm then good, my father once said a little dirt never hurt anyone.

Smoking is going to be banned in Scotland in all enclosed public places including private clubs. To ban it would be a financial nightmare for the inland revenue as they would lose out on the tax, they know if they dont ban it but just make it look as if they are doing something by making smokers sto it in enclosed public places then people will still smoke but maybe not as much as they used to. Its already been banned in Rep. of Ireland and Italy in enclosed public spaces.

I dont think anything should be banned, I dont think its good sence to ban somebody from taking something from nature (the tobacco plant) and smoking it.

I dont like smoke, and having asthma it doesnt do me much good, but its freedom of choice if someone wants to smoke, i dont have to stand near them, so apart from worrying about the health of someone i care about, i dont mind people smoking and see little reason why anyone should complain.

Sometimes you can't help being around them because they just light up right in front of you

I'd think that if smokers would just ask those around them if it is OK to light up, then we would all be a bit happier. That way those wishing the smokers not to interfere would be getting what they want and the smokers could go elesewhere to have their smoke and not bother others. I don't think that those who don't smoke should stop those who do smoke but only suggest that the smokers should move away from them.

For a lot of kids, whether or not their parents smoke is the least of their worries, by far the lesser of many evils.

Awake;

My father was a smoker for 30 some years and would complain about people who didn't like people smoking, he quit and now complains about everyone that smokes.

Sounds like he stopped being an idiot and realized who's right.

If you don't like smokers don't go around them.

Sometimes you have no choice. When I'm waiting at the bus stop people all around me are smoking-- and even though it's outside you still get hit with a fair bit of 2nd hand smoke. I suppose I could wait for the bus on the other side of the street. I don't mind inconveniencing myself for the ignorant tools who think nothing of BLOWING POISON into the air.

I guess a better example would be my family at Christmas; close to half of my family smokes, and at Christmas the house is absolutely clogged with smoke. Again, I guess I could go eat Christmas dinner on the front porch.

Which brings me to my next point...

Most smokers will respect someone that tells them politely that they would rather they not smoke around them.

This would be true, if by "most" you meant "none at all." Most smokers that I know are more passionate about 'smoker's rights' issues than non-smokers are.
I would never go up to a smoker and tell them "politely" to stop smoking around me. Do you realize the ass-chewing I would be setting myself up for? You sound like a smoker in denial.

Speaking of smoker's rights...what a joke that concept is. Smoking is not a right. Any activity (ie smoking) that infringes on another's basic rights (ie having clean air) is not a right. It is a priviledge that people are allowed to smoke. Now that most public places are banning smoking, smokers are throwing a fit about their right to smoke...

I'm sick of hearing smokers say that non-smokers are pushing these anti-smoking agendas in order to get smoking banned everywhere. You know what? In Canada (especially Ontario), bylaws are being enacted left and right to limit smoking in public places. This isn't because non-smokers went whining to the government,

It's because smokers are a burden on society.

I don't know about anyone else, but the idea of MY tax dollars paying for smoker's hospital bed & oxygen tank really pisses me off. Why should my taxes be higher because some nimrod decided to be cool by inhaling toxic chemicals, knowing full well that doing so will kill them?

Not only should smoking be banned in all public places, but when a smoker gets cancer, emphysema, and is barely clinging onto life, they should be left to foot their own medical bill. It's wrong for me to pay for their stupidity.

Of course, there is little chance of smokers actually realizing any of this. They're idiots; that's why they smoke in the first place.

I smoke
I like to smoke
I enjoy smoking
in fact in pure defiance of a no smoking sign I once lit a cig and a janitor in heathrow came up and poked me in the ribs saying... "Oy cant you read?
I replied by saying
"Yes, that's why I'm not scrubbing floors at Heathrow!"
You want fresh air? Move to Switzerland!

Too funny.

You're standing at a bus stop, sucking in diesel and gasoline exhaust with every breath you take... but it's the smoker who's gonna poison you.

I've a clue for you... stand upwind. ;)

The point is there is still no clear evidence that second-hand-smoking causes disease. The epidemiological studies on second-hand smoke have not returned strong enough correlations to make such a discreet distinction. Experimental studies are non-existent.

That being said, I do believe in being polite about smoking. I don't smoke in restaurants or around children. If someone asks nicely or expresses politely that they have a condition that cigarette smoke will irritate, I will move elsewhere or extinguish my cigarette. But when I'm outside in the open air, move over. And if you don't like my smoking in the bar then find a different private establishment that disallows smoking.

"Non-smokers. A buch of self-righteous, wining, little slugs. Shit, I'd quit smoking if I didn't think I'd become one of them." - Bill Hicks

Actually, smoking is not the problem most people, Americans in particular, should be concerned with. Obesity in the US has now statistically reached pandemic status.

Nebula,
It isn't a matter if I smoke or not, I don't think it is right for anyone to say I can or can't. As a matter of etiquette a smoker who is politely asked not to smoke by a non-smoker, s/he should not. Yes you are right, there are some that would give you crap about it but then again that comes to etiquette and politeness.

glaucon,

I agree with the obesity in the US. My theories on that are that the US populace drinks too many sodas and eats too much fast food.

Yes. Frankly, I think smoking is cool. I like how it looks and wouldn't mind taking it up if it didn't completely fuck you up at the later stages in life....and I am not even being sarcastic.

Sounds like a lot of excuses. Maybe the second hand smoke will end your misery?

:m:

This thread is hilarious. Most people seem to be pretending that environmental toxins are a secondary problem to cigarette smoke. WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS
