You need to ask the "African Americans" that question! It was they, not the whites, who chose that illustrious, yet meaningless, title.

Most white Americans are afraid to call blacks anything for fear of ensuing riots and lawsuits! ...LOL!

Seems to me that any group searches for a distinct identity only when it does not have one.

Looks like assimilation has still not happened for the "blacks"

Sam-o with the Sunnis and the Shiites, huh? And they've had many more years to assimmilate and/or work out their differences than the blacks of the US ...yet they're killing each other every day. I wonder what that tells us about "distinct identities"???

Actually I think it's the other way around .....the blacks are the ones who seem to create the racial tensions ...and call out the "race card" every time something happens to a black criminal (or whatever!).

Just look how the blacks all turned out to support Congressman Jefferson, who was found to have been a very bad boy ....yet they supported him, and claimed racial bias in the investigation. No white men would do such a thing if another white man were to be investigated for wrong-doing!

Hell, TruthSeeker, in most of Africa, many of the black Africans don't like the other black Africans .....ain't it obvious since they're always trying to kill and maim each other?
