Can someone confirm this? I've been searching and can't find it anywhere. A friend of mine sent this via e-mail.

Sounds very exciting if true but if it is true then it is an expensive discovery.

There was supposed to have been a mold on the Mir that was eating the windows... I'd assumed that it was carbon-based form of mold. It may be that the sterilization process they used wasn't good enough.

A friend of mine sent this via e-mail.

I fear that really says it all. It seems this is yet another Internet & email rumor that has no basis in fact. If life, silicon based or otherwise, had been spotted by the rover, you can bet they wouldn't be talking about how the dirt clings to the rover's wheels, or what to best name the little rocks nearby.

This would be front page news.
