Sexual Predators

Sexual energy being chanalized the wrong way has always been a factor of our society, but it will change for good in the near future...

I would say it is becoming more prevalent for the increasing documentation of such cases, public awareness of these sexual criminals, and the fact that pornography is flooding the public with the Internet as the easiest medium available. You might see a magazine in a gas station that says "Playboy", but never "Pedophile", whereas the Internet has a lot of child pornography, rape, and other illegal sexual acts caught on camera. There is also the fact that some sexual predators will continue to engage in such illegal acts.

I think it's a mixture of both...

Numerous - They have always existed in history, and I imagine that (since there can't be an accurate statistical study) such 'predators' exist in a rough proportional comparison. With the populations increasing, the percentage of sexual 'predators' will also increase.

Visible - Investigative reporting, prevalence of media, law enforcement surveillance, social workers etc, all of these efforts and staff root out many of the ills of society.

This I agree with; when humans as a majority learn that sexuality is not a taboo to be hidden from and demonized, sexual behaviour will mature with the rest of the human intellect and psyche.

I do not blame porn in any major way at all for any of these actions. Matter of fact, those that generate the child porn are themselves sexual predators. They create the porn, the porn did not create the abberation.

the proportion of child abuse has actually lowered since the 50's it just that we can read about it now in all the papers

increase in population means there is more people on earth to commit crimes. also we live in a media rife world where everything is reported.

peace.

Possibly more numerous, but definitely more bold and more visible.

Analogously, in the ... I think it was the early 1990s ... people panicked because E. coli seemed to be lurking everywhere. Statistical reviews showed no significant changes in the infection trends; what changed was the public-reporting process, and therefore media access, and therefore public visibility.

Likewise, during the amber summer a few years ago, when people were freaking out about child abductions, one persistent reminder given the people--that they either didn't believe or simply didn't pay attention to--was that abduction numbers were actually down slightly, and the difference was how many made it to the headlines.

E. coli deaths, and child rape get better ratings than, say, the budget details of sidewalk repair. There's a reason we hear more about certain things. Remember, "If it bleeds (especially from its ass), it leads."
