We had found the enemy aircraft carrier, it was the Japanese carrier Zuikaku II. We looked through the database, it had a displacement of 84,000 tons. I dived to 150 meters.
We loaded 3 of the tubes with 65 cm torpedos. And than we loaded four with anti ship missiles, and one with a SAM module.
"Tell the buglar to blow the f*cking horn"-I said
"aye aye sir"- commander Borei. "flood the torpedo tubes, open the outer doors, prepare countermeasures, battlestations"
"An alarm rang for two seconds and all the lights dimmed and red lights turned on."
"ready to fire"-Weapons officer
"All stations prepared and ready"
I could feel the anxiety in the entire sub, every crewmember, waiting for that moment, for the word...
fire
We heard the silent burst of air that launched the three torpedos. The torpedos dove deep, to 1000 feet before accelerating to their maximum speed so they would remain unheard. They were about a minute again when that anxiety built up again....
fire
A few seconds after that we heard the roar of the rocket motors from the anti ship missiles engage.
"periscope depth"
"aye aye sir"
We got the photonic mast (instead of using mirros a photonic parascope also known as "photonic mast" has many, many different cameras that display on a large TV monitor) and I scanned around till I saw the carrier. It was swerving and started firing interception missiles. The carrier and her escorts blew up all the missiles before they came close....
An explosion rocked the ship. we felt it. The 65 cm torpedos detonated under her hull breaking her into four pieces. The entire crew saw it on television monitors throughout the ship. In forty five seconds the entire carrier was under the waves, most if not all of her crew would drown inside the hull.
We sent the video to Moscow...
"Set depth....1000 feet"-I said calmly...quietly
"aye sir"-the helmsmen said in almost a whisper
We retracted the photonic mast and the radio mast and slid under the waves once more. They never saw us and they never fired back... The crew was overjoyed, we even got steak from the cafeteria, a rare delicacy for us submariners. And despite all the partying and the happiness, I still feel like we had lost, not just us, but everyone...
