Running and stitches

Probably everybody has experienced a 'stitch' when you're running or even walking. In case the terminology's different in foreign countries, by 'stitch' I mean that annoying pain you get in your stomach or chest sometimes when you run.
I'm curious to know the cause of this pain and what's the best way to relieve it. I find that if you touch your toes it goes temporarily (until you straighten again), and that if you stretch out it disappears slowly but permanently (more or less). But there has to be a better way of relieving or preventing the pain in the first place. Help me please.

just ptu up with it, i always tend to get it when i run, just tensen your muscles and put up with the pain until you get to where your going

Just do what I do......Pschoaerobics! You just think about the excercises instead of actually doing them that way you'll never get any "real" cramps only "imaginary" ones! ;)
