You guys should do your homework before you start a thread. Your thesis didn't ring true so I did a Google search and got hundreds of hits on the phrase "tower of skulls." It's a practice that's been going on since before the rise of Islam. The Mongols in particular were fond of it. Victims of various iterations of the "Mongol hordes" have their own "tower of skulls." From what I gleaned in a quick scan it goes back at least to the Tatars and Tamerlane, who was no Muslim. The first "Mongol horde" that had converted to Islam was comparatively recent: the people who eventually became known as the Ottomans.
