Potato Dextrose Agar

I am wanting to make some potato dextrose agar. I realize that at one point, an autoclave is needed. Can I still successfully make it without an autoclave by using an oven? Actually, this just came to my mind. What if I used a pressure cooker instead of an autoclave? Would that be just as good?

Possibly.

A pressure cooker would be better. After all, an autoclave is merely a fancy pressure cooker.

If only need a small number, it’s much easier and safer to simply buy pre-made agar plates.

Are you just doing this for fun? Or are you doing an organized experiment?

Either way, I'm intrigued. I'd never heard of an agar made from anything except seaweed, so I looked it up and there is actually a recipe for this. Apparently, it's better for cultivating fungi and certain bacteria. Cool :)
