KRAKOW, Poland (AP) -- Pope Benedict XVI, visiting John Paul II's native region in homage to his predecessor, said Saturday he hopes the late pope will be declared a saint "in the near future."

So what “miracles” is Pope John Paul II supposed to have performed? Or is catholic sainthood an American Idol-like popularity contest now? :bugeye:

i think the maricle was that he talked to a woman with prostate cancer and she was "Healed"......but god forbid that maybe it was modern medicine that did the job (Edit: if i remeber right i was prostate cancer but it may have been somthing else.)

being a saint just means most people believe that person has gone to heaven, the canonization process was created so we wouldnt have so many saints... but technically it can just be a popularity contest
