MacNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceutical has issued a recall on Children's Motrin grape chewable (ibuprofen) tablets. A lot of 75,000 or so bottles has been released to the market which contain "an adult dose of acetamminophen."

It should be reasonably easy to tell the difference. The children's product is purple and smells like grape candy. The Tylenol Extended-Release 8-Hour Gelcaps are red and white and shiny.

Retailers have returned 10,000 bottles, and the company has taken calls from 2,000 consumers.

There are two obvious comments to make:

• Under certain circumstances, that could lead to very bad results.
• Two-thousand consumers noticed the difference; if you can't ... um ... I don't know what to tell you.

Beyond that ... how embarrassing for MacNeil.

This is one of those cases where they need to take the warning labels off and let nature sort out the abominably stupid from everyone else. :D
